Charles Milford "Charlie" Anderson Obituary
1931 ~ 2018
Charles (Charlie) Milford Anderson, 86, returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at his home in Beaver, Utah after a long battle with COPD. He was born on December 5, 1931 in Story County, Iowa to Emil John and Ruth Minnie Glasscock Anderson; he was the 5th of 13 children.
Charlie was raised on the family farm and graduated from Stanhope High School. Instead of being drafted during the Korean War he chose to enlist in the United States Marine Corps where one of his duties included being a search light operator. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and came home to work on the farm and start his career as a truck driver.
On August 18, 1962 Charlie married Lois Claire Sanders in Chicago, Illinois; together they had 4 children - David (Monica), Lori, Jeffrey (Terri) and Emil John-Andy (Lisa).
Charlie was a long-haul owner-operator until he began his career with P.I.E. in 1968. He was transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1969 and was an active member of Teamsters Local 222 serving on the executive board for many years. Charlie was transferred to Beaver, Utah in 1984 where he bought property that allowed him to return to his farming roots raising animals and growing small crops, tinkering here and there and "horse trading" with his best friend Merrill. He retired in 1993 and spent time enjoying his family - kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 56 years, his children, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and his siblings - Joe Ann (Arnold) Ennenga, Albert (Meriellen) Anderson, Iris (Rex) Cook, Fay (Ken) Cross, Nina (Jim) Beeghly, Julie Allen, Neva Henderson, brothers-in-law Loel Gordon and Gerald Reese. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings - Zada, Donald, John, Lois, Ruth, brothers-in law Craig Henderson and James Sanders, sister-in-law Lorraine Reese.
Charlie was a stranger to none, a friend to all. He was selfless; he helped anyone in need. His last wish was to donate his body to the University of Utah Medical School in the hope that they may find answers and ways to help others with the horrible disease that finally took his life. Charlie's final resting place will be in Iowa. In lieu of flowers please be kind, help someone in need…. it's what he would have wanted.
Words cannot express the gratitude that we feel towards Dr. Cindi Leech and Dr. Beth Underwood at the Salt Lake VA Hospital for the tender kindness and compassion that you showed our dad…. he thought the world of both of you.
