Clyde Roy Ferrin Obituary
The Leader of the Band
Clyde Roy Ferrin was born May 4, 1936 in Salt Lake City to Clyde Moroni and Hazel Alice Frost Ferrin and passed away peacefully Saturday, February 2, 2013.
Roy served as a missionary in the Central Atlantic States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Eggleston, on August 13, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. Roy graduated from the University of Utah in music education. Shortly thereafter he began his career as a band teacher, first in Vernal (two years), and then in Tooele where he taught elementary through high school students for 34 years. The Tooele High School Band received many accolades throughout his tenure with performances in the Tournament of Roses Parade and Presidential Inaugurals. He loved his students and joyed in their successes. It is estimated that he influenced over 3000 students.
Roy served in many different church calling, including bishoprics, high councils and youth callings. After retiring in 1997, He and Ruth served a mission to the Samoa, Apia Mission in 1998 where he taught music at the church school and grew to love the saints of Samoa (where his father also served). He loved his wife and family and enjoyed vacationing with them. He was a leader and great example to all that knew
him.
He is survived by his wife (Ruth), his sons, Craig (Tammy) Ferrin, Bart (Tonya) Ferrin, and his daughters Kristeen (Lyle) Phelps, Heidi (Loren) Clark, Connie (Greg)
Lemon, and 22 grandchildren. He and Ruth also shared their home with three Native-American students; Mamie Begay, Dennis Billie and Coralyn Dandy.
His parents, his brother, three sisters and a grandson precede him in death.
Services will be held Saturday, February 9, at the LDS church at 4980 West 3285 South, WVC, at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be Friday, Feb. 8, 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 9, 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment, Elysian Burial Gardens.
