I just found this web site and felt I need to let you know that I have thought about you many times and of course wished things could have been different. I remember when you let my daughter have your Mustang to drive.. I told you then when she tore the clutch out or blew the engine, you would be sorry. All you did was smile at me and told me not to worry, well Schow when she was with you i never worried. She was safe. Thank you for letting our family know you. You are special. I still have cute Derek's obituary on my fridge and my daughters say he is a protector. I knew him from the Ark and think about him soooo often.

Schow...you also are never far from our thoughts and your family is always in our prayers. Today is difficult. It's difficult for those of us you left behind. I know you and Chels are great. But, there's so much we wish we knew and understood. I suppose in time all will be revealed won't it?!
Take care of each other. I wish we had had more time getting to know each other. We learned so much about you in such a short period of time and I thank you for sharing your life with us.
Your resting place is beautiful. The memorial is lovely. Darrell and I often visit you, but especially Darrell. He had a special understanding of your disease and you touched his heart from the beginning.
You will not be forgotten buddy. I look forward to the day that Chelsea, you and the many others we loved who have passed over greet me at the gates of Heaven.

We think of you all the time and pray your family can find small bits of peace, happiness and joy even though you are not here with us. I know you are ok! I believe God (and all those who loved you who were called before you) were there to welcome you into the most loving, happy place any of us could possibly imagine. I don't know what you all do in Heaven..but if Chelsea has anything to do with it she's probably making you run her errands, help her with what needs to be done and still listening and giving her special loving advice...even if you don't ask for it!

To Derek's Family,
I was very saddened to hear of Derek's Passing.
It is always difficult when I learn that one of "My Kids" has died. I was Derek's Fourth Grade teacher, at Lone Peak.
I have warm memories of Derek - he was so full of life and laughter - with a huge grin on his face most of the time. I'm fortunate to have shared that time with Derek. He bought so much fun and joy to our class.
I can't imagine your experience of losing him. I hope you are able to take some consolation that you were able to share your lives together, and have many good memories to fill your heart.

So I was looking at our wedding pictures this morning and I am so HAPPY that you were in our line and shared our most special day with us. Dear family,
Our hearts are broken for all of you. Please know we are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers as these days, months and years pass.
Our daughter, Chelsea, was blessed to have called "Schow" her friend. I remember Chels telling me of the very long talks she and her buddy had together. But, she never shared what they talked about....that was private between the two of them and she would have never jeopardized the special trust they had with each other. We know how brokenhearted he was when we lost our little girl, July 26, 2005. We have all been lost without her here, but I think Schow missed her more than we could ever have known.
In November I began receiving letters from our sweet Schow. We wrote back and forth, a lot! My letters to him were more than half spent "yelling" at him and probably half of his were spent saying "I know", "I won't", "I promise"...But he always signed them "Love, Schow". So, he must have not gotten too angry about my harping on him to stop writing. I was always really excited to see a letter in the box from our sweet friend! In December Darrell and I went to visit him. We cried together when we realized he wouldn't be home for Christmas. But, he stayed strong, committed to making things right. Darrell and I were so proud of him..especially when he told us of his plan to go into counseling. He would have been amazing! The loss of such a sweet man, who touched our hearts so easily and possessed so much potential and desire to succeed has rocked us to the core.
We are so very sorry. Our hearts ache for your family who obviously adored him and the friends who's lives have been forever impacted by his friendship.
When we talk of Chelsea, we always refer to her as "Our Chelsea". I have a feeling we will have the same title for "Our Schow". I know Chelsea had one little hand outside Heaven's door to help her buddy cross from this world into the next. As these last few days have passed and the two of them have been constantly in my thoughts and prayers I've thought a lot about the reunion they had. She loved him, she probably was missing him as he was her and as she held his hand to let him know he was safe, she enveloped him with pure love. Chelsea was a special young woman and Schow was a special young man. We will miss them more than words could ever say. And even though our hearts never take a break from hurting, there is some peace in knowing they've found each other again...they can pick up where they left off...back to those long, long talks they were famous for.
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Schow and brothers and sister for sharing your sweet child with us, especially these past few months. Oh Schow,
Monday was such a hard day! I hope you know just how much you were really loved! There was such a huge turnout! We really do miss you so much. Chad and I were talking about some good memories we had of you. And the one that came to mind is when Cadence was little and she was just talking and she would always see you and say "Dada"and I would have to tell her "No that is Schow" and she'd have a confused look. She thought that you and Chad looked alike! It was so cute! I remember so many times hanging out with you! Last year watching you boys doing fireworks for Cadence and Kelsey was fun!!! I am still in disbelief that we laid you to rest yesterday:( I am so thankful I got to know you many years ago and even more thankful we became like a brother and sister the last few years you were here...you have always been there for me even if it were 3am!!! I am going to miss your ridiculous dancing you did and your awesome model poses you did ALL THE TIME..we always had to watch you w/the camera if we didn't it would be filled of pics of you modeling...lol! My friend Derek schow, Derek and I go back a long way we have known one and other since middle school, we played football in high school and graduated together, worked on cars and trucks together, barried a horse in the middle of winter, raced mustangs both legally and that of questionable legality. We went to nascar together in las Vegas were he watched his favorite drivers Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson. We worked and shared many friends, We had many great times we had many fun times in tuxedos and some long sand dune nights. Derek loved his family and friends very much and he will be greatly missed.

Derek will be missed by his neices and nephews. Losing my sister Lindsay four years ago pulled on the heart stings of everyone in our family. My six year old son found a scarf yesterday that Lindsay gave him. He cried for about ten minutes. Derek was a fun uncle. The little ones will miss him and remeber him.
Growing up across the street from you, it was nice to see your family in action. Thank you for the honor of sitting in on your family prayers in Norwegian. It was nice to know there was always a spot for me at your dinner table.
What a blessing it is to know that Jesus is the Christ. We all will be resurrected and receive perfect bodies. It will be a joyous reunion when you all will be reuinted with Derek and Brenda again.
May God our Father pour out the blessing of Heaven on your family during this difficult time,

I had the pleasure of knowing Derek very well a few years back. We became friends when he worked at Best Western. He was such a good friend to me, and he had the biggest heart. I loved being around him. I'm sad we lost touch the past few years, but I will always remember him and keep his memory in my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
