DONNA BOTT Obituary
Donna Smith Bott 1924 ~ 2010 Donna Smith Bott of Santaquin, Utah, passed away the morning of November 7, 2010. She fought a courageous and prolonged battle with multiple health issues. She was born in Panguitch, Utah, on May 23, 1924, the youngest child of Asa and Evaline Norton Smith. When she was only three weeks old, the family moved to Santaquin which became her life-long home. She attended public schools in Santaquin and graduated from Payson High School. She married the love of her life, James H. Bott on August 20, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Together they raised four very fortunate children. Their home was a safe haven and was the hub of many gatherings for their children, extended family and neighbors. Caring for her family was her greatest joy. She also found pleasure reading, sewing, traveling, writing and cooking. Growing up during the Great Depression, Donna gained a great work ethic and love of service to family, church, community and country. As a young bride, she supported the war effort by working in the shipyards during World War II. Donna served faithfully, holding many positions, as an active member of the LDS Church. She worked as a school lunch lady and manager for 23 years. It was never just a job to her, but an opportunity to serve her students, faculty and district workers the best lunch possible. She was innovative and creative in fulfilling her responsibilities. One of Donna's final gifts and an unselfish act of service to her community was being an inspired co-founder of the Chieftain Museum. She left the town and her family a legacy honoring our heritage for generations to come. Donna is survived by her children, Farrel (Kathy) Bott, Santaquin; De Ann (Marty) Oslowski, S.L.C.; Shayne (Annette) Bott, Santaquin; Keela (Andrew) Goudy, Santaquin.14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and two sisters. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Santaquin EMS Dept., Dr. Jeffrey Wallentine, Dr. David Tipton, and his nurse Shelly Goodall, as well as Clark Thatcher and Jenny Bybee of Alpine Home Health for their loving and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Old Santaquin Stake Center, 90 South 200 East. A viewing will be held Thursday, Nov. 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, and again on Friday from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Santaquin City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a lasting memory with your family. Contributions can also be made to the Chieftain Museum, Santaquin, Utah in Donna's name.
