DORIS WILSON Obituary

Doris May Wilson 1913 ~ 2011 Our beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend,Doris Wilson, aka "Bessie, Mazy, Mama, Grams, Grammy and GG" passed away peacefully on April 21, 2011. Doris was born in Canada on May 8, 1913 to Sydney Dale and Jessie Ellen Dale. In 1919 the Dale family immigrated to the United States where they settled in California. Her mother died when Doris was just 10 years of age. Doris' giving and resilient character shined as she grew. She became an accomplished seamstress in order to help care for and support her father and siblings. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Bill Wilson. They eventually married on April 1, 1934 and shared a long, happy marriage rooted by their deep love and respect for each other. Doris loved to dance and enjoyed many Saturday nights on the dance floor with her sweetheart. Bill passed away in 1984 and Doris never remarried. Doris was an avid golfer, volunteer, and loyal friend. In 1996, she was honored with the "Volunteer Recipient Award" for having donated more than 3000 hours of her time as a St. Mark's Hospital Auxiliary volunteer. She was an excellent cook and the most adorable social butterfly who kept a very full calendar that included both friends and family. Doris taught so much to so many. She cherished her family and played an integral role in the lives of those close to her. Always confident and beautiful, she lead by example and was the perfect model for parenting, grandparenting, unconditional love, humor, and inner strength. She will be profoundly missed by many. She was most proud of her children: Suzanne, who passed away at age 5, and Bill, who passed away at age 67. She was heartbroken to have outlived them. Also preceded in death by her siblings Sydney, Edna, Dorothy, and Isaac. Doris is survived by her adoring daughter-in-law, Lyle; grandson, Bill, Jr.; and granddaughter, Suzanne; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Samuel, and Alexander, as well as extended family members residing in California whom she deeply loved. Mom, you have given so much and asked for so little in return. Thank you for always being there for us, for teaching us, listening to us, helping and forgiving us, loving us, and always, always paving the way for us. We will work hard to reach the standard you set. Farewell sweet mama. You were simply magnificent. Private services to be held at a later date. www.memorialutah.com

I am so glad I was given the opportunity to know Doris. She was one of the sweetest and special little ladies I have known. She sewed for years for my mother before she passed and Doris did alot of sewing for me too. We all lived in the same Mobile Home Park and I had the pleasure of also working with Lyle at P5. I loved sitting and talking to Doris when I'd take my clothes to her to alter. I know she will be missed alot by those who are left, but remembering things she used to tell me, I just know how happy she is to be with her husband and children again. I am blessed to have known her.

God is near to those that are broken at heart … a refuge and strength, a help that is readily to be found during distresses (Psalms 46:1). May God grant you the comfort and strength that you need during this time of grief and loss.
