Florence Wilden died on November 15th, 2013, in Knoxville, TN, at age 72.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 22nd, 1941, to Phillip and Cecelia Weiner, she was a woman of many mysteries and tremendous accomplishments.
Survivors include: Her beloved son, Robert J. Barron, of Colorado Springs, CO, her beloved friend, E.D. Taylor- who was like a daughter-of Cleveland, OH, her sister, Eleanor Mainella, of Baltimore, MD, whose love and devotion were boundless, and her beloved nieces, Geraldine Mintz of Baltimore, MD, Alice Allnut, of Lehigh Acres. FL, and Audrey Morse of Denver, CO, numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, and a daughter, Lisa Rechsteiner, of Manhattan, NY. She treasured the extraordinary friendships of Jacqueline Giry, her closest friend and confidant, Schera Chadwick, whose countless acts of kindness astonished her, and Johnnye Page, Terry Schaefer, Sid Moormeister, Elisa Fiasca, Shannon Apps, and Stan Krostar- who enriched her life with their warmth, caring, intellect, insight and humor. The Rationalists of East Tennessee- including, Schera, Ted, Joan, Aleta, Pauline, Leonore, Ralph, Joe, and others- provided knowledge, fellowship, and joy.
Education was Florence's passion, and she realized that passion by earning a Bachelor's Degree from Johns Hopkins University, a PhD from the University of Utah, and then she enriched the lives and education of hundreds of her students who took her French courses at the University of Utah. More than anything else, her passion for education is how she will be remembered.
Please direct remembrances to the American Civil Liberties Union, or the Humane Society.
