George Afton Chappell Obituary
George Afton Chappell
1926 - 2013
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, George Chappell passed away on July 5, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born in Lyman, Utah on March 25, 1926 to Leona DeLeeuw and Alton Chappell. George grew up in Lyman until joining the US Army in 1943, serving 4 years in World War II. After returning home from the war he married Ione Brinkerhoff (later divorced) and moved to Salt Lake City to find work and start a family. Together they had 4 children. George's family increased in 1981 when he married Gloria Jacketta who had 5 children. George worked very hard; sometimes working two jobs to provide for his family. He eventually retired from the Safeway Bread Plant after 32 years. He loved gardening, hunting, camping and anything to do with being outdoors. George is survived by his wife; children, Yvonne (Kent) Duncan; David (Kathy) Chappell; Terrie (Kim) Roderick; Michelle Adcox; stepchildren, Belinda Lafeen, Bart (Kristy) Lafeen, Greg (DeAnna) Lafeen, Cary (Teresa) Lafeen , Jon (Theresa) Horrocks; sister, Ardis (Norman) Christensen; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many extended family. Funeral services will be held at Redwood Memorial Mortuary located at 6500 S. Redwood Rd. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00 am. Prior to the service, a one hour viewing will be held beginning at 9:45 am at the mortuary. Special thanks to Harmony Hospice for the excellent care and services they provided.
