John Bush Obituary

1950 ~ 2012
John Stephen Bush; musician, thinker, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, died suddenly on October 22, 2012 in Salt Lake County.
He was born on February 24, 1950, the first son of John Wayne Bush and LaPriel Strong Bush. He grew up and lived most of his life in the Cottonwood area.
From an early age, John exhibited a rare talent for music. Starting with high school ensembles such as the Granite Youth Symphony, continuing at BYU and the University of Utah, and extending throughout his life to organizations as diverse as Ballet West, The Utah Symphony, The Weber Symphony and The Orchestra at Temple Square, John excelled at musical instruments, including string bass and especially contrabassoon.
John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served a mission to North Carolina, and held church callings at many points in his life. He did significant work in genealogy, and was an expert in uncovering his family's history, especially his Swedish heritage. John also researched other topics including music theory, botany, and astronomy. He had a keen sense of humor and many memorable qualities. He was loved, and will be missed.
Funeral services will be held Friday Oct.26th at the Butler West Stake Center, 1845 East 7200 South; a viewing will be held starting at 9:00 a.m., with the funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m.

So sorry for his passing. I remember John working very passionately last year on our budgeted levy. He tirelessly and selflessly put in many long hours while sacrificing time with his family to further non-profit addiction research. He will be very missed. May God be with him and his family.

John was so talented in music. I have always bragged about his musical and math abilities. I have wonderful memories of him as a child. May Johnny rest in peace.

I am so sad to hear of his passing. I am a fellow oboist and my husband R. Craig Brown is a fellow bassoonist, as well. We have played gigs with John before. We will really miss John's talent!
