Kathryn Bell Jacobsen 1965 ~ 2010 Kathy Jacobsen, a loving wife, mom, daughter, sister and aunt; passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Thursday December 30, 2010, after struggling with and enduring a wide variety of debilitating illnesses for a number of years. She was born on December 3, 1965 in Salt Lake City Utah, the fifth child to Charles Eugene and Mary Thora May Bell. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1984, and attended LDS Business College, the University of Utah, and Salt Lake Community College, where she received an associate degree. She married Russell Thomas Jacobsen in the Salt Lake Temple on April 29th, 1991. Together with Russ for 20 years, she produced a thoughtful, devoted son and later acquired a playful, independent dog. Kathy loved her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in a variety of callings, including the Relief Society Presidency, the Primary Presidency, and as a Visiting Teacher. She cared for those she served, and grew to truly love those with whom she served. She worked briefly for Valley Bank in the late 1980's and early 1990's, but always felt her most important job was that of being a full time mom. It was a job she found thoroughly enjoyable and completely exasperating at the same time! Kathy loved movies, and spent many Friday evenings at the theater watching the latest blockbuster. It became such a tradition that she would frequently need to see a double feature of two new movies on the same night. She collected many DVD movies and could be found many evenings with dinner spread on the coffee table watching an old favorite. She loved the changing seasons in Utah; and reveled particularly in winter. A heavy rain or snowstorm brought her sheer delight. She loved the fresh green grass and beautiful flowers of spring and summer, and she would feast on the harvest of fresh fruit and vegetables at the farmer's markets in the fall. Kathy would never shy from a difficult or physically demanding project; and tore out trees, shrubs and chain link fencing from her home, and helped install a retaining wall, sod and more fencing. She was so adventurous that she climbed on the roof and tore off layers of old shingles, and then helped replace them with a full new roof. Each new project always seemed to generate the need for some special tool that was always labeled 'hers'. She also loved to exercise, especially walking far from her home in surrounding neighborhoods. Even dragging a cart with a big oxygen tank rarely slowed her from walking with her companion and buddy, her sister Diane. Kathy is survived by her husband Russ and son Logan, Her father Charles Bell, brother Ken (Pat), sisters Diane, and LeAnn Luczak (Steve), six nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother Thora and brother Bob. She truly loved her family, her many nieces and nephews, and became attached to her in-law family as well. She will be deeply missed and loved forever by her family and those whose lives she influenced. Her family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Susan Edwards, Dr. James Pearl, Dr. Michael Lowry and their staff for all the hard work and effort they made to keep Kathy healthy and make her life comfortable. Following Kathy's wishes; no funeral services or viewing will take place. Friends and family are invited to a brief dedication of her grave at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, located at 1342 East 500 South, in Salt Lake City, Monday January 3rd, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Also following her wishes, family members and close friends are invited to gather briefly after the dedication and celebrate her life by eating ice cream at the Rosecrest Ward, located at 3101 South 2300 East in Salt Lake City.
