LaRae Anderson Obituary

LaRae M. Anderson
1937 ~ 2014
LaRae M. Anderson, age 76, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2014. She was born March 16, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Howard and Ellen Mackay and was the second of four children. She married her first and only true love, Delbert J. Anderson on October 13, 1956. Delbert passed away on March 16, 1962 from cancer but provided LaRae with her life passion of raising two young sons.
LaRae is world famous (well…..Utah famous) for her fresh baked cookies. She cooked literally 10's of thousands of cookies for her family, friends, and neighbors. She also provided Bingham High Baseball, SLCC Baseball, Utah Valley University Baseball, and University of Utah Baseball with thousands of yummy cookies to be enjoyed while traveling, practicing, and playing. LaRae's shrimp salad is a huge family favorite for all special occasions and family members are working to duplicate it. She also was very skilled at crochet and provided countless baby blankets and afghans that are all heirlooms of her family and friends.
She had a passion for raising her two sons (Steve and John) and immersed herself in activities to help ensure their success. This included Room Mother, PTA President, Baseball Scorekeeper, becoming the first female District (Cottonwood) President within Ute Conference Football, and Vice President for the entire Ute Conference, Youth Football Program.
LaRae instilled a strong work ethic to her family while working night shift at HiLand Dairy in a manufacturing job. This allowed her to work while her boys slept but still participate as needed as a full time mom. As her children grew she took a job at Klungervik Construction, AT&T, and finally retired from US West.
She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, world's best grandmother, sister, daughter, wife, aunt Rae, neighbor, and friend. Her legacy will live on through her survivors, sons; Steve Anderson and wife Christie (Sandy, Utah), John Anderson and wife Kristy (South Jordan, Utah); grandchildren Dustin, Stephen, Brooke, Amanda, Bo, Shaelynn, Cole, Shartel, Braden, and Brantly; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Dick Mackay and wife Jean, Jeff Mackay and wife Laura; and sisters-in-law Lorna Mackay and Barbara Birkinshaw. She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert Junior Anderson; parents Howard and Ellen Mackay; and brother Ken Mackay. The family would like to acknowledge the 50+ years of support she has received from her beloved neighbors, including Morris and Gerry Lewis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, Utah. Visitations will be Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00-10:50 am at the funeral home. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.

All our thougts and prayers go out to the entire family. Larae was a great person. She loved watching her boys play ball. I sat with her at plenty of games. Those memories will be greatly missed.

I will miss your mom calling me lollipop. I was her youngest cousin on the Sorensen side. I loved her strong will and zest for life. She had the most beautiful smile you couldn't help but smile when you were around her. Steve and John, We pray for comfort for you and your families at this time.

Larae was tough bird and spoke her mind which I think made her one of my favorite relatives.
She carried some deep wounds in life and time is a great healer and she is healed now.
Bless you and your family
