LAWRENCE RICHARDS Obituary

Lawrence Mark Richards II 1946 ~ 2009 Lawrence "Lawry" Mark Richards II, passed away surrounded by loved ones in his home on Wed., October 7, 2009 in Holladay, Utah, due to a long term battle with cancer. Lawry was born on May 17, 1946 in Holladay, Utah to Lawrence Mark Richards and Margaret Reid. He served faithfully as an LDS missionary in the Canadian Ontario Mission. Lawry married his wife, Loni, on June 30, 1972 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He made his home in Utah's Salt Lake Valley and Laguna Niguel, California, where he made many long lasting friendships. Lawry's love for his family was always his top priority in life. He always said that his greatest accomplishment was raising and providing for his four children and caring for his sweet wife. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and actively contributed when called upon. Lawry enjoyed designing and building furniture for his home, sanding and polishing wooden blocks for his grandkids, or carving out the perfect pinewood derby car for his sons. He also loved collecting and listening to classical music. As an excellent pianist, he was always called upon to play the organ at church. Lawry's other interests included: sports, coaching, cooking and spending time with his family. Lawry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Yolanda "Loni" Lucero; his four sons and their wives: Adam and Yoko Richards, Brandon and Alee Richards, Mark and Shellie Richards, Jordan Spencer Richards; his mother, three sisters, and one brother; and nine wonderful grandkids. He is reuniting in Heaven with his twin sons, Benjamin and Zachary; his father Lawrence Mark Richards; his mother-in-law, Emma Lucero; and other friends and loved ones. Lawry touched the lives of everyone he met. We will love him forever. Funeral Services will be held on Mon., October 12, 2009 11:00 a.m., at the Murray 24th Ward, 755 East Three Fountains Drive (5010 South). Friends may visit with the family on Sunday evening October 11, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Holladay Memorial Park. On line condolences may be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com

Dear Loni & Family,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Lawry's passing and am sorry I was not able to attend his memorial services due to family responsibilities and illness.

Getting to know both of you through the bond of church music has been a joy, and I have missed working with you during his illness. He is truly a gentleman and a scholar, and your love and devotion to each other was a beautiful thing to witness. Your cheerful and positive attitudes during your adversities are worthy of emulation by all of us.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you in the difficult days ahead as you cope with this loss. I know from experience that the longing for the earthly companionship of your eternal sweetheart never goes away, but cherished memories and hope for the future through our faith bring comfort and peace. I pray that the love and concern of friends and family will help to ease the burden of your sorrow.

With love and deepest sympathy,

Pat Griffiths

You boys ware so blessed to have Lawry for your father. he was such a positive man. He knew how to show his love for those around him and always made me feel happy and good about myself whenever I talked to him. I love you Aunt Loni and can somewhat understand how it feels to see someone you love and shared so much of life with suffer. Lawry's positive approach to everything gave you all so much additional time and memories together. My heart goes out to you all.

Love,
Eli

Lawry was a great uncle who will be missed. He was a great example of how to raise a family. I will always remember him giving me a hard time (jokingly) about everything and always related well to me growing up. I think he did a great job raising his sons and made sure he set them forward on the right path. We all have a lot to be grateful for and I am glad I got to know Uncle Lawry and to be even a small part of his life

I went to Olympus Junior High with Lawry and heard him play Warsaw Concerto on the piano in a talent show there. I thought he was just the "coolest" kid in town after that. I always wondered what happened with his talent, so I am glad to read that he continued to play...and that he had a wonderful life. Although I know you will miss him terribly, you - his family - are blessed to have had him in your life.

Lawry was a great teacher, musician, friend, and brother. We pray for you and your family during these lonely days. Bless you.

Brother Lawry Richards made me laugh every time I saw him and was a dear friend to our family. During my youth, Lawry welcomed me into his home, coached me in baseball, and showed through his actions how one should live. Lawry's love for the Gospel and his wonderful family will forever bless his friends and family. Lawry has not gone far and will continue to bless his family as he serves the Lord and waits for his beautiful wife and great children.
