LeRoy Van Cott Obituary

LeRoy B. Van Cott "We only part  to meet again"  Our sweet, beautiful father, LeRoy B. Van Cott, died peacefully February 4, 2003. LeRoy was born July 1, 1913 in Salt Lake City to Frank Victor and Annie Mary Anderson Van Cott. Attended LDS High School and graduated from BYU in 1935. Married Ruth Johannesen April 17, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a lifelong member of the LDS Church. He began his career with the National Park Service in Yellowstone, later transferring his family to Zion National Park. He retired from the Park Service in 1968 and then worked for First Security until 1978.  Dad's heart always stayed in Yellowstone. He loved hiking and fishing in its beauty. He will be remembered as being thoughtful, generous, stubborn, funny, quiet, sweetly eccentric, an accomplished pianist, an entrepreneur, a fabulous cook and healthy and sharp right up until the month before his death. He loved to travel with his older brother John and especially enjoyed the trips his son Stephen took him on in later years. He was able to make one final trip to Hong Kong during  Christmas. He is survived by his three children Mark (Mary Anne), Anne and Stephen, brother John, sister Laura Cottom, five grandchildren; four great-grand-children and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Ruth, brother Frank, sisters Helen Madsen and Ruth Van Cott. At noon on Saturday, February 8, friends and family are invited to a memorial service of his life at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Dr. Bring your special memories to share. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the General Missionary Fund, or charity of your choice. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.

I knew LeRoy and worked with him in the Cottonwood 16th Ward. I received a letter from him only a short time ago - wish I would have answered it - I am going to miss him!
