Margaret Hink Obituary

1921 ~ 2011
Margaret C. Hink, our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother in law and friend peacefully passed away surrounded by family on October 16, 2011 in Salt Lake City due to a hip fracture. Despite her injury, Mom's loving and vibrant spirit was present even in her last hours.
Margaret was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 24, 1921. She was the only child of Albert and Clara Hermann. Loved and nurtured by her parents and surrounded by close family and friends, Mom, from a young age, learned the joy of bringing friends into the circle of "family".
Mom attended Temple University. On June 14, 1941 she began a glorious 67 year marriage and love story with her soul mate, Gordon Hink, She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, her eldest daughter Barbara Hink and husband Anton Margis. She is survived by children Donna (Stephen) Castleton, Salt Lake City and Gordon Hink, Perkasie, PA, adored grandchildren, Amanda Moxley (Johnn ) Williams, Salt Lake City, Helen Hink, Gordon Anton Hink, Michelle Hink, Phila., PA and Samantha Castleton, Salt Lake City, and three most cherished great-grandchildren, Tony, Sawyer and Sophia.
Margaret is remembered for being a devoted mother and grandmother and generous friend. Her time and energy seemed endless as she cared for her family. Margaret always had a project or cause. She was a joiner who enjoyed civic and philanthropic activities and made new friends along the way. She was a pie maker, entertainer, care taker, chocolate loving bridge player and always the life of the party. Margaret was adamant about family traditions. She opened her house every Sunday to extended family and friends for "Sunday dinners" and prepared feasts on every holiday.
She continued to be active in her retirement at "the shore" in Avalon, NJ and winters in Naples, FL. Here she found new community organizations like the Avalon Garden Club and Civic Club to devote herself to when children and grandchildren were not around. The East coast was not the extent of Marge and Gordon's travel's, they visited Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Central and South America. These travels gave her more ideas for decorating and dinner parties. Marge was an avid reader, talented knitter, crafter and when macular degeneration diminished her eyesight, she found enjoyment in bingo, chair Tai Chi, grandson Sawyer, talking on the phone, and more socializing. She laughed her way through life.
After Gordon's passing in 2008, Marge moved to Salt Lake living with her daughter Donna and family and then to Sunrise Assisted Living for the past year. The new climate and scenery thrilled Marge and she often asked her grandchildren to go on drives with her, which they happily obliged. To them Grandma represented a wealth of old stories, a source of compassion, and always a warm hug.
The family would like to express a special appreciation to her Sunrise "family" for their loving kindness and support. A celebration of life service will take place at 3 p.m. on October 23rd at the home of Donna and Stephen Castleton. She will be buried in Philadelphia, PA, reunited with her husband at a later date.

Dear Donna,
I just heard today about the passing of your mom. I am sorry I did mot know I would have like to have paid tribute to her as our paths crossed and she called me friend. I will always remember her for her kind words as I would help her into bed at night. She would tell me I had such a soft touch, gentler than most. I really helped me feel like I was helping her and making a difference in her life. How she would gather new comers to the floor so they would feel welcome. It was truly her nature. May the Good Lord grant you comfort and ease the emptiness that might come at the holiday time of year. Sending love your way.

Dear Donna & Gordon, What a wonderful tribute to your mom. Her picture was perfect, demonstrating her wonderful welcoming smile. We will miss our visits with Aunt Marge and Uncle Gordon in Avalon. When on vacation in Wildwood we would plan to visit for a short time and just drop off a few fish, if my luck was good that day, but ended up talking for hours, enjoying their company while the time just passed by unnoticed. They were such a pleasure to talk to and we always had several laughs when Uncle Gordon would needle Aunt Marge with his dry humor. All the best to you and your family, Love Bob & Cathy and family.
