1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Mary (Wright) Erickson Obituary
March 10, 1924 ~ May 4, 2014
Mary (Wright) Erickson died peacefully in the early hours of May 4, 2014. Mary was born on March 10, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Leila (Rich) and Clarence Wright. She had three sisters: Jane Bauter, Anne Smith and Kaye Pollock. The Wright family moved to Salt Lake City in 1928. Mary attended local schools: Wasatch Elementary, Bryant Junior High and East High School. She graduated from the University of Utah where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Mary and Charles Bernard "Bernie" Erickson were married in 1945. Together they raised four children: Lief, Lynne, Lars and Lori. When Bernie died in 1991, Mary knew that she needed to keep busy to fill the void. During their life together, she had been a teacher, a bridge player, a churchgoer, a traveler and a devoted friend & family member. She continued to play bridge, attend Church, take trips and look after her expanding family. She was indebted to the Holladay United Church of Christ over the years. Through their Caring Ministry she was able to help provide blessings, comfort and friendship to others; she was also grateful to have been on the receiving end during the final chapter of her life. One of her circle of friends is fondly referred to as "The Darling Girls." Many of them had been friends since Kindergarten. Seven out of fifteen of them are still alive and in the Salt Lake Area. Mary was a member of the Holladay United Church of Christ, the Assistance League of Salt Lake and Town Club.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her sisters. She is survived by her four children & their spouses, Lief & Larysa (Goloshchapov), Lynne & Allen Whiting, Lars & Susan (Richardson), Lori and Larry Franciose; nine grandchildren: Kellie (Erickson) & Zach Cloud, Groshong Andrew Erickson, Bea Whiting & Patrick Ruel, Everett Whiting, Erik Erickson, Erinne (Erickson) & Gabe Mejia, Dominic and Louis Franciose and Josie (Franciose) & Jon McGuinn; four great grandchildren: Zander & Jayna Cloud, Oliver Patrick McGuinn, and 'Baby" Whiting-Ruel, due in July.
Gratitude is given to caregivers at Sunrise Holladay and Hospice For Utah for their loving care and support. There will be a service at 10 am at the Holladay United Church of Christ on Tuesday, May 6. Private committal service for family will be at a later date at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary and Memorial Park and Holladay United Church of Christ. Contributions may be given in Mary's name to the Assistance League of Salt Lake City (P.O. Box 9353 SLC 84109) or the Holladay United Church of Christ (2361 Murray Holladay Blvd, SLC 84117).
