Rachel Daines Obituary
1932 ~ 2014
Rachel F. Christensen Daines slipped peacefully into the loving arms of her eternal family on September 1, 2014 following a difficult battle with cancer.
Rachel was born on March 21st, 1932 in Goshen, Idaho to Joseph Cortez Christensen and Lenore Forbes. She grew up in the Goshen and Shelley Idaho area where she excelled in school. She became an excellent pianist and was a highly acclaimed accompanist. After graduating from Shelley High School she continued her education at Brigham Young University.
She met Oliver Donald Daines in Idaho at a Church dance. They were married on July 30, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived for a brief time in Canoga Park, CA, and then settled in Brigham City, Utah where they successfully raised their four children.
Rachel served in many Church callings which included serving as an organist, choir director, Young Women's President, and as a Cultural refinement teacher. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She loved music, particularly the organ and the piano, was an accomplished knitter, and loved to read. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Barlow Christensen, and her sister, Janet Long. She is survived by her husband, Donald, her children, Linda (Kimball) Krantz of Kaysville, UT, Deborah (Craig) Brown of Fountain Valley, CA, Clifford (Julie) Daines of Salisbury, NC, and Cheryl (Neil) Brown of Centerville, UT, as well as 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Afton Cook, and her sister-in-law, Anne Christensen.
We express special thanks to Envision Hospice, and particularly to Meghan Mickelson, Heather Herrin, Shelley Ambriz, and Anne Farley, for their tender care. Rachel will be greatly missed, but left behind a legacy of love and faith.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6th, at 11 a.m. at the Plain City 7th Ward building (2952 N. 4200 W., Plain City, UT). Friends and family may call on Friday, September 5th, from 6-8 p.m. at the Plain City 7th Ward building, or on Saturday, September 6th, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
