SHERRY BLACK Obituary

Sherry Waycasy Black 10/14/1946~11/30/2010 Sherry Waycasy Black passed from this world to a much better one on November 30, 2010 where she is now reunited with her son Jason. She has "fought a good fight...finished [her] course ...kept the faith...the Lord...will preserve [her] unto his heavenly kingdom." 2 Timothy 4: 7-8. Sherry was born the daughter of Milton "Casey" Waycasy and the late Verda Park Wright on October 14, 1946 in Provo, Utah. She grew up in Orem and attended Orem High School where her love of books first began. As a young girl Sherry loved to bowl. Her parents owned a bowling alley and she bowled in many competitive leagues. These bowling leagues took the family all across the United States. But, perhaps more importantly, it was in one of the leagues where she first met the love of her life, Earl B. Black. On April 16, 1965 the two bowling sweethearts were married and a wonderful life together ensued. They shared many hobbies and interests including the outdoors, animals, hard work, adventure and most importantly their family. Early in their marriage Sherry's love of animals and the outdoors led to a career as a docent at the Hogle Zoo. She was elected as one of the presidents of the Utah Docent Society. Her lifelong love of books eventually became a profitable business and Sherry quickly established a strong reputation as an expert of rare and used books. Sherry's most important role was that of wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family dearly and could always be found doing the little things that made their lives easier. She was especially excited about the new adventure of becoming a great-grandmother. She will be missed, and those left to mourn her loss are eternally grateful to have known and loved her. Sherry was preceded in death by her mother Verda Wright and her son Jason Alexander Black. She is survived by her husband Earl, their daughter Heidi (Greg) Miller, and grandchildren; Courtney (Jason) Hawks, Alyssa (Tyler) Wardle, Elder Bryce Miller, Joshua Miller, Oakley Miller, Sabrina Miller. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Eloise, and was looking forward to a great-grandson due to be born in March. Sherry is also survived by her father, Milton "Casey" (Carol) Waycasy; brother, Jimmy Waycasy and sister, Debbie Waycasy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Sandy Utah Crescent Stake Center, 1700 East 10945 South, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, and one hour prior to services Monday at the Stake Center. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the South Salt Lake Police Department for their professionalism and sensitivity during this difficult time. They would also like to thank all those who have offered both public and private thoughts and prayers of love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Larry H. Miller Charities for the benefit of women who have been victims of violent crimes or domestic abuse at, 301 West South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101, Attention: Karol Elkington or at any Zions Bank location. My heart goes out to Earl and Heidi and the rest of the family as well as those who had the privilege of knowing Sherry.

Sherry was always upbeat and happy as well as helpful beyond the call of duty any time I stopped by the shop or called for information. I've bought many a book from her over the years and she was truly knowledgeable in the field.

My dear friend Earl, my prayers and thoughts are with you as you go through this terrible time. What a loss for you and yours to suffer through. You are on my mind constantly as I hardly believe she is gone. Peace be with you my friend.
