Virginia Thomas Anderson Obituary
1929 ~ 2013
Our dearest mother died peacefully Feb. 18, 2013 at 83 surrounded by family after a six month struggle with a brain tumor. Mom was born in Payson, Utah to Lee and Lisle Thomas. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from Granite High. She attended the University of Utah and worked for Utah Oil Company in the office. She married James Robert Anderson on September 7, 1951 in Salt Lake City. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings including Sunday School Coordinator and Homemaking Leader. Mom and Dad enjoyed wintering in Palm Springs and St. George. They both loved to golf and mom became an excellent golfer. Mom and Dad were members of Oakridge Country Club for 30 years where they enjoyed many friendships. Mom loved to sew! She sewed clothes for herself and her children and was an outstanding seamstress. She loved beautiful flowers and had a cheerful garden even last summer. Her colorful zinnias were always envied! Mom was an excellent cook. Being a mother and grandmother was mom's happiest accomplishment. She loved all of us and gave us her BEST self. Living a life with our mom was looking at stars on summer nights; it was hootenanny on Sundays; it was full of love.
Mom is survived by her children: Jane Strand, Tom Anderson (Belinda), Susan Abbott, and Laura Romney (Richard). She leaves 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her siblings are Shirley Barker (Clint), Norma Simmons (George), and Lynn Thomas and sister-in-laws Jean Anderson and Marian Wertz. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant son, James Thomas Anderson.
A special thanks to CareSource Hospice for their love and tender care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2013 at Noon at the Grandeur Peak Ward, 3640 East Millstream Lane (3510 S.), viewing prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30am. Interment will follow at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
