Winifred Andrus Obituary

4/23/1918 ~ 10/19/2011
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 19, 2011 at the age of 93 from causes incident to age. She was born on April 23, 1918 in Randolph, Utah, to Percy Harold and Bessie Morgan Rex, the third of six children. She graduated from South Rich High School and then completed nursing school in Salt Lake City. When her mother passed away suddenly, she moved home to assume responsibility for her three younger siblings.
She met Theron Roscoe Andrus through his sister, Ida, and they were married on November 22, 1941 in the Mesa, Arizona LDS temple. They moved to Marion, Utah where they raised eight children and ran a farm until his unexpected passing in 1972. Mother was devoted to her family and her faith. Throughout her life she was a constant example of hard work, patience, self-discipline, kindness, and an unwavering faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including Stake Relief Society President, Young Women's President, and as a full-time missionary in Ventura, California in 1978-80.
Winnie was a skillful homemaker and she used her talents to bless others. Whether it was a cozy pair of pajamas, a beautifully hand-stitched quilt, a loaf of homemade bread, or a plate of her famous raisin cookies, she touched many through the generous giving of her time and skill.
Mother loved music and was known for her piano playing ability. She served as the Marion/Rhodes Valley Ward organist for more than 60 years and performed countless accompaniments starting at the age of 12 until she was 89. She had a great love of nature, especially mountains, gardens, and her beloved flowers. She enjoyed sightseeing and traveled the country visiting her grown children and she was always there to help with newborn babies.
Winnie is survived by her children: Irene (Reinhard) Ruf of Peoa, UT; Ilene (Doug) Sappington of Columbia, MD; Marlene Garcia of Salt Lake City, UT; Marilyn (Lambert) Lewis of Marion, UT; Millard (Peggy) Andrus of Lehi, UT; Carol (Roger) Stephenson of Delta, UT; Eldon (Lisa) Andrus of Kingwood, TX; Janeen (Alan) Barney of Chandler, AZ; and Karen Allmendinger of Marion, UT. Also survived by Ione Andrus, a sister-in-law, 45 grandchildren, and 58 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter Marene; son-in-law Celerino Garcia; grandson Jacob Barney; great-grandson J. Tanner Kesler; and all of her siblings: Harold Rex, Helen Rex Frazier, Measer Rex, Morgan Rex, and Flora Rex Lamborn.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 25 at 12:00 noon in the Kamas Utah Stake Center, address is: 3038 N St. Rd 32, Marion. There will be viewings at the stake center on Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 and Tuesday 10:30 - 11:45 prior to the services.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Audrey Stembridge and Brittaney Atkinson for their loving and tender care.
Interment will follow the services in the Marion, Utah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Arrangements by Crandall Funeral Home in Kamas, Utah

Grandma Andrus was a very special lady to our family. We love her and are grateful to have known her. Her kind influence will be felt for generations.

Mike has many memories of coming up to visit his Aunt Karen and Grandma Andrus. Grandma had several children and grandchildren who lived locally, so Mike and his sisters had plenty of playmates. Between the dairy farm, the rural setting, and the shelves full of books, there was always something new going on!

Her home always has a special spirit about it. In a lot of ways, it's a little slice of heaven on earth. We will miss you, Grandma!

Love,
Mike, Hallie, Landon, and Eliza Owens

Dearest Friends & Family,
The Lord has surely blessed you with such good parents and we will miss your sweet Mom, Winnie, in our lives. I have such fond memories of living in Marion in 1970-72, going to church and learning so much through your mother's example. She was my R.S. Pres. and visiting teacher. I remember singing with Irene and Marilyn while Winnie accompanied us at many different functions; and our relationship continued through the years as my sister married into your family. I can honestly say that Winnie was the most humble woman I have known throughout my life. Vic and I send our love to each of you as you carry on the good things. Thanks to each of you for your faithfulness and example to us all. Wish we could be there to honor her.

Dear Cousins, It has been a long time since we have seen any of you, but we do remember you. We were thrilled to see your sweet Mother a couple of years ago and enjoyed renewing old times. We know there is a glorious family reunion going on as she met up with your Father and all others that have gone on before her. We will all have that opportunity as members of our eternal family. Our love and sympathy to each of you. Sorry we cannot come out to the funeral but our love will be there with you.

Dear Cousins,
I have only wonderful memories of time spent with you and your parents.....apricots drying in the sun, rows of peas to pick (and we coaxed to play instead of work), popcorn around your kitchen table, and always lots of warmth and love.................
Last fall when Lynn and I were in Marion, I visited with your mom and she told me that sweet peas have to be planted before Grandmother's birthday. This year I did that and had blossoms for the first time.
Aunt Winnie has always been a wonderful example to all of us. We love her and all of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We hope Tuesday will be peaceful day for your family. With love, Lynn and Diane
PS This is such a nice picture of your mom

I remember visiting with the Andrus family at our Milo Andrus reunions. My parents (Mildred and Wesley Mollerup) took their family on a few visits to Kamas to visit with my mother's cousins, your parents. What a wonderful mother and father all of you have. Can you imagine the wonderful reunion the Andrus Family is having in the Spirit World!

Our sympathy to all of you.

We are well aware of this wonderful family. Daughter Irene always inspired us and we have felt honored to know so many from the Andrus family. As would be expected, this passing marks the end of a very good life filled with choices that anyone can admire. Hopefully, the funeral and burial will be a time to celebrate her life. Our best to everyone!
