Obituary Condolences

Michael Edward Pennels 1988 ~ 2008 Michael Edward Pennels, 19, passed away in his sleep Sunday Feb. 3, 2008. Cause of death is yet unknown pending an autopsy.Michael was born on June 20, 1988 in Severna Park, MD. Throughout his childhood and teenage years he lived with his family in the ski towns of Durango, CO and Park City, UT. Michael's passion for skiing, snowboarding, and the snow were the reason the Pennels family moved to Park City eight years ago. A member of the Brant Moles' Big Mountain ski team for three years, a saxophonist for Mr. Chris Taylor's jazz band and varsity jazz band for six years, and bassoonist in Taylor's wind ensemble for three years, and a certified SCUBA diver for seven years, Michael's interests were many and diverse. He enjoyed world travel to ski and SCUBA locations. Michael's fearless, adventure-seeking personality lead him to revel in such sports as bungee jumping and sky diving as well as race car driving. By the time he was 16, he had nearly attained his private pilot's license at OK3 Air in Heber. With honors, Michael graduated from Park City High School in June of 2006. During his high school years Michael played for the PCHS water polo team and life guarded at the Ecker Hill swimming pool. After graduation, Michael completed a year at the University of Utah and worked at the Redstone Cinema. "Mike" Pennels is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Alice Pennels; his little sister, Mia Pennels; grandparents, Vince and LaVerne Fragomeni; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be remembered and missed for his intelligence, his daring, and his very dry wit. His adoring dog Molly will miss him tremendously. A memorial service will be held at The Olpin Hoopes funeral home this Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. There will be no viewing of the body, and creamation will follow the autopsy. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Michael's name to The Christian Center of Park City, attention Tim Dahlin, Executive Director.
