CLAUDIA TAYBORN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2010.
Claudia Coray Tayborn 1949 ~ 2010 Claudia Coray Tayborn, 60, of Salt Lake City, Utah died April 4, 2010. She was born November 13, 1949 to Ralph Que and Marion Gayle Martin Coray in Salt Lake City. She graduated from Skyline High School and attended the University of Utah. She married Matt Tayborn who preceded her in death in 1978. Claudia suffered from debilitating illnesses for many years. Not yielding to poor health, she remained engaged in life, enjoying politics, spirited conversation, reading and writing. She hosted a talk radio program entitled "Claudia's Closet" for a brief time. Claudia passionately championed the underdog. In spite of physical difficulties, she designed and created jewelry sharing her handiwork with friends and family. Claudia was devoted to her son Nathan and his children. Claudia is survived by her parents; son, Nathan Charles Tayborn; grandchildren Jeremy and Tiauna; sister, Marion (Greg) Johnson; brothers: Rual (Anne) Coray, John Coray, and Bryan (Camellia) Coray and their children. Claudia's family would like to thank Mindy, Pedro, Ashley, Eileen and the staff at Paramount Healthcare for caring for Claudia. A memorial service was held by the family.

Claudia and I were very close friends. I met her when she resided at Friendship Manor. We would discuss many, many things into the early hours of the morning (while ordering pizza from late night vendors). She was one of the most intellectual, knowledgeable, and well versed people I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. Coincidently, we both lived in Green River, Wyo. at the same time but never met. However, we did share common acquaintances. I will miss her deeply and our shared friendship.

Claudia being her sweet self.

I loved her smile.

Dear Coray and Tayborn family,
My deeply heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time. I have lost track of Claudia over the last couple years but she has been in my thoughts even just this week, wondering where she was and how she was doing. I have had the pleasure of knowing her for most of the last 10 years as a neighbor and dear friend. I have never met a stronger, more courageous and patriotic woman in my whole life. She talked often about her upbringing and how her parents taught her to think. She supported the underdog and when the going got tough, she fought even harder. I am sorry I was not there when times were probably toughest with her health but she has always been in my heart. She took a piece of me with her when she left but I am thankful for the part of her she left with me. Thank you for raising such a wonderful person and letting the world share in the exemplary life she lead. The world will not be as bright with her gone but with her looking down on us from wherever she is, I feel better. She loved her parents and I enjoyed visiting with them when they came here to visit her. She loved her grandchildren and could talk about them for hours. I too could go on forever about this wonderful woman that I was blessed to know and work with for the benefit of others but her actions speak louder than words ever could. We, your friends, love you and will miss you greatly. Thank you for all you gave us. Godspeed sweetie.

Dear Coray and Tayborn Family's - I never had the opportunity to personally meet "Grandma Claudia", but I was able to speak with her over the phone a couple of weeks before her passing due to Claudia's precious granddaughter Tiauna. I may only be Tiauna's Great Aunt Kimmer, but I want to tell you how much Tiauna loved and talked about her Grandma Claudia. Tiauna would show me beaded items and jewelry her grandma made for her; and how excited she was to take bus or train rides with her Daddy Nate to visit her Grandma Claudia at the place where "Mindy" worked. Mindy is my niece and Tiauna always thought Mindy was personally taking the best care of her grandma, which she did. Tiauna would frequently mention how much her Grandma Claudia loved her because she was always making and giving her things. Tiauna has and is cherishing those items as she keeps them in small purses or bags and puts them in safe places not to be lost. Tiauna would also mention the fun rides she would have with grandma in her wheel chair as they rode up and down the halls. Tiauna would 'always' make sure Grandma Claudia was mention in her prayers as well. I promise I will do my best to keep Grandma Claudia alive in Tiauna's heart by talking about the fun times and the love the two of them felt and had together. Tiauna is truly going to miss her. With my sincerest sympathies....Tiauna's Great Aunt Kimmer.
