Our precious baby girl Nina Sharon Nickisch died unexpectedly in her sleep from an acute respiratory illness early Saturday morning. This totally unexpected loss leaves us overwhelmed with grief and emptiness. She was such a happy girl, full of life and love. She showed us her sense of humor and love for her older brother Noah and parents every day. Nina looked strikingly similar to her brother, had her Papi's easygoing demeanor, and was headstrong at times, a trait she probably got from her mother. She loved miniature chocolate bars, taking baths, waking up big Curious George from his home in Noah's closet, doing everything her brother did, and family walks with Linus. She is survived by her parents, Florian and Cheryl Nickisch, big brother Noah, paternal grandparents Christa and Martin Nickisch from Erding, Germany, maternal grandparents Thomas and Sharon Sharpe from Wilmington, Delaware, Auntie Suzy, Uncle Frank and Cousin Mae from Andover, MA, and Nina's babysitter Alyssa Rettke, who became part of our family and loved Nina like we did, we can't thank you enough. We would like to thank our family, friends, wonderful neighbors and the physicians and staff at Primary Children's Hospital for their love, comfort and support. Her short 19 months here can only leave us heartbroken that we won't see her grow up. She will always be with us and we are so grateful that our lives have been enriched by having shared her love. We love you, Little Nina.
A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, March 15 at 12:00 at the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City followed by a dedication ceremony at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers we gratefully accept contributions in Nina's name to one of her favorite places, Tracy Aviary. www.tracyaviary.org
