"I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."
-Casper Gutman, the Maltese Falcon
Howard S. Landa, beloved husband and father, died January 12th, 2013 from complications of diabetes. He was born to Jerome and Esther Landa in Tulsa, OK on February 7th, 1948 and moved to Salt Lake City as a young child. A man of many degrees, he graduated from East High School followed by the University of Utah where he earned a B.A. in history. He attended Hastings Law school in San Francisco and earned his LLM from New York University. He was a founding partner of the law firm Kruse, Landa, Maycock and Ricks and was feared by many. After several successful years practicing tax and securities law he left to become Howard S. Landa CEO.
His crowning achievement, however, was marrying his lovely wife Theresa (Terry) and being the proud father of his three children, all of whom inherited his trademark wit. Howard will always be remembered as a loyal and generous friend and the best storyteller at any party. He is fondly remembered for his love of classic film, indomitable Jeopardy skills, Tommy Bahama shirts, and appreciation of wine and bourbon- especially Turley and Hirsch.
He is survived by his wife Theresa (Terry), his children, David, Whitney (Thomas Maiaroto) and Christopher, his mother Esther and his sister Terry Landa Vismantas (Ray). Preceded in death by his sister, Carol Landa.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at noon.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Educational Resource Development Council at the University of Utah Health Sciences to assist in providing scholarships for future physicians and nurses.
