Robert Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2013.
Our loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully at home in Kaysville on February 16, 2013. Robert Alvin Johnson, 82, was born May 31, 1930 in Everett, Massachusetts to Oscar and Elsa Johnson. He moved to Salt Lake City at the age of 12 and later served an LDS Mission in Sweden from 1950 - 1953. Afterwards he was called to serve in the Korean War. From there, he graduated from the University of Utah and was a successful Certified Public Accountant.
Bob married Sharlene Felt on September 19, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children and were later divorced. On April 17, 1992 he married Judith Abbott Hoggan; the marriage was later solemnized in the Bountiful Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church where he faithfully served in many callings.
His favorite hobbies included dancing, growing and selling winter hardy cactus, gardening and going to dinner with friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and play with everyone he knew. He loved the Boston Red Sox, BYU Cougars, and Utah Jazz.
Bob is survived by his sweetheart, Judy; two sons: Ronnie Johnson, SLC, UT and Kenny Johnson, Layton, UT; two step-daughters: Debbie (Bruce) Lee, Logan, UT, Lori (Dee) Wilkinson, Mountain Green, UT; 10 grandchildren; sister, Margaret Okelberry, Syracuse, UT; brothers: Donald (Sharon) Johnson, Syracuse, UT and Dale Johnson, Oregon. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, KayLynn Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jack Okelberry.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22nd, 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville 20th Ward, 855 E. Mutton Hollow Road, where viewings will be held Thursday, 6 - 8 p.m. and again Friday, 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist Memorial Park at Layton. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.

I can imagine Bob is already gathering some rocks together, and taking cuttings of some celestial prickly pear to plant the cactus garden to beat all cactus gardens: Oh, Bob! you lived life so well. Cactus lovers across the world mourn your passing.

Judy:
I was so sad to hear of Bob's untimely passing. You must be devastated. At Christmas time we visited and hugged and he seemed to be doing so well. I think of the many times he has helped Julie in my absence. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Love, Coleman

It is a pleasure to be friends with bob. He has a smile that melts away the difficulties we face in life. Each week he would ask how I was and share how he was coping with his cancer treatments and knee replacement. He would find away to lighten the struggle and leave you filled with a posative energy. I miss your smile and kind words.
Judy, may the Lord bless you with increased strength.
You are a wonderful friend, Mother and Wife. I look forward to seeing you again,

It was a pleasure serving with Bob in the church, and getting to know him as a friend. I will really miss his sense of humor and his Swedish joking. He will be missed.

We'll miss you as a friend and neighbor, Bob. The "cactus" will miss you too.
Love, Karen
