Marilyn Hegessy Moffitt Obituary
1930 ~ 2014
St. George, Utah-Marilyn H Moffitt, 84, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 16, in St. George, Utah.
She was born February 4, 1930, in Salt Lake City, to James and Eve Hegessy. Marilyn married Lavar James Moffitt in the Salt Lake Temple on August 30, 1951.
Raised in SLC, Marilyn graduated from East High School in 1947, was the Queen of Sugarhouse, 1949. Marilyn was an accomplished pianist early in life, and at age 17, began playing for vocal students of A. Lee Humphries. In 1949, a small town baritone/bass named Lavar chose Mr. Humphries to teach him vocal lessons, and well, you can guess the rest!
Marilyn was a beauty, a perfectionist, and strong willed. She taught piano lessons for many years. Marilyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, excelled in her church responsibilities, and was a member of the DUP.
Marilyn returned to college (BYU) in her forties, where she earned a B.A. in Genealogy, long before Genealogy was cool. She travelled extensively doing Genealogy professionally and for family. Marilyn and Lavar served an LDS mission in Martha's Vineyard. She loved to travel, and be with her friends in study group.
She is survived by: her loving husband, children Scott James Moffitt (Sherryl), Rebecca Huntsman (Calvin), Kelly Lavar Moffitt (Jackie), and Layne David Moffitt (Anne), 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by: parents and sister; Mercedes Hegessy Woolsey.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 22, 11:00 a.m. in the Hurricane 11th Ward Building, 452 North 2600 West, Hurricane, Utah. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Service at the same location. Internment will take place at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George.
