Ervin J. Butterfield, son of George Jefferson Butterfield and Edna Marie Naylor died April 17 2014. After many health problems returned home to his Father in Heaven, parents, and loving wife Erla Fae Thulin. Leaving behind 5 sons and daughters Debbie Simpson (David, deceased), Ervin G. (Debbie Burbidge), James J. (Pam Gunrud), Cindy Lou Yates (Byran), Pamela Anderson, deceased, Carol Clayton (Ryan), 6 siblings Verl (Joann), Bob (Rea), Hershel (Sally), Hyrum deceased (Bernice), Lola Lewellyn (Dick, deceased), 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren, his Yorkie Skipper, and Cocktial Tweety, all he dearly loved. After serving his country in the Navy he found the wonderful woman that would support him in all of his life's pursuits, as no other woman would. Dad married Erla Fae Thulin Oct. 29, 1949. They were together 59 years. She preceded him in death on April 3 2009. His hobbies, talents included playing his harmonica. Through raising his kids, he loved to hunt, camp, fish the Provo River. Those who fished with him would say,' He's the best fisherman they ever knew'. He loved to tie flies to fish with, and sold many of them to friends. He enjoyed his vegetable gardens, and the many beautiful flowers which he was very knowledgeable about. He learned to golf, to have a hobby with friends and sons. Midlife, he loved Oil Painting, many grace the homes of friends and family. He served in the Cub and Boy Scout programs. This led him to be active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served valiantly as: a Seventy, Stake Mission President, High Councilman, High Priest Group Leader, and served 2 service missions. Special thanks to Carol and Ryan Clayton for their selfless sacrifice to keep dad in his home. Also, thanks to the River 8th Ward for all the loving care, kindness, and countless meals dropped off to dad. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd at the Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary located at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A viewing and funeral will be held on Thursday, April 24th at the River 8th Ward Building, 1255 West 10775 South, South Jordan, viewing from 12:45 to 1:45, and the funeral will be at 2:00 PM.
