Former Mayor and Democratic State Representative Tim Moran, 95. loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, Utah on April 18, 2014. Tim was born on August 8, 1918 in Spanish Fork, Utah to James Joseph and Annie Moran.
Tim a lifelong resident of Spanish Fork, Utah was educated in the Spanish Fork schools and received his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Education from Brigham Young University. It was that education which guided him throughout his life while he worked as a teacher and principal, passing on his love of education and his belief that you never stopped learning. Tim began his teaching at the Goshen School in 1948 and ended that portion of his career in June 1983 as the principal of the Brockbank Elementary School. Thirty-five years were dedicated to watching and helping the young people of Spanish Fork learn and grow as they passed through his schools on their way to adulthood. Tim was an honorary life member of the Utah Congress of Parents and Teacher's Association due to his dedication to quality education. World War II brought a break in Tim's education while he served in the US Army Air Corps 96th Bomb Group (H) 337th Bomb Squadron, as a nose gunner and togglier on B-17 bombers, with 19 combat missions in the European Theater of Operations. Tim received the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. On June 1, 1956, Tim married the former Bliss Larsen and they spent 57 wonderful years together. Tim's fondness for his hometown and concern for its future led him to community service as a councilman and as mayor. During those eighteen years of service he was First Vice President of the Utah League of Cities and Towns. Tim also served as a member of the Governor's Advisory Council, a member of the Utah Law Enforcement Planning Agency, Fifth District Judicial Selection Commission, Charter Member and Organizer of the Utah Valley Industrial Association and Past Commander of the American Legion. After twelve years as Mayor of Spanish Fork and his retirement from teaching Tim was elected as the Democratic State Representative from District 66 in Utah County. In this capacity Tim served on the General Government and Capital Facilities Appropriations Committee, the Energy, Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee and the State and Local Affairs Committee. Tim served six terms in the Utah House and it should be noted Tim was the last Democrat elected to the legislature from Utah County in 1996. Over the span of his public life in community service Tim received many awards to include being named in 1995 as the Spanish Fork Outstanding Citizen. Tim enjoyed spending time with his four granddaughters; Madison, (Boston, Massachusetts), McKenzie, McCall and Kennedy (Virginia).
Tim is survived by his wife Bliss Larsen Moran, Spanish Fork; two children Kathleen (Chris) Marquardt. Lehi; Timothy (Ra Chel) Moran, Virginia. Tim is proceeded in death by his parents, five sister and four brothers.
