Hazel Burke Bulloch Obituary
Hazel Burke Bulloch
1922 ~ 2014
Hazel Burke Bulloch, 92, of Cedar City, Utah, passed away on April 27, 2014, of natural causes.
She was born on January 4, 1922 and was the youngest of five children born to Thomas James and Charlotte Emma Carlow Burke in Beaver, Utah. Hazel graduated from Beaver High School where she played tennis and was active in drama. She met Nelson Bulloch prior to WWII, but refused to wait for any solider. Years later, when traveling through Cedar City, she wondered what became of him. She called the first Bulloch listed in the phone book - Angus. To her surprise, that was Nelson's father. Nels had just returned home from the war the previous day. They were married shortly thereafter on December 28, 1945, in Boulder City, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple.
From this union four sons were born. Hazel was a homemaker, a rancher's wife, and worked at Petrolane, Bradshaw Chevrolet, ABC Bank, and the BLM. She was bookkeeper for BJG Land and Livestock until the time of her death. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a faithful visiting teacher. Hazel was always impeccably dressed and never left the house without first combing her hair and putting on lipstick. She valued her independence and her ability to drive the two blocks to church and her weekly hair appointment, weather permitting.
Hazel loved to read and was constantly looking for a good book; she did the crossword from the newspaper every morning and loved the Utah Jazz. In fact, her family teased her that she loved the Jazz so much they would get them be pallbearers at her service. Hazel also loved playing cards and wasn't above adjusting the rules to win a game of Rummy. Hazel's biggest joy in life was spending time with her boys and her family. She was a true loyal mother and friend - a trait she passed on to her posterity.
Hazel is survived by her sons Bryan (Shauna), Jeff (Cindy) and Gary (Suzette), eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (with two on the way). She was preceded in death by her parents, her four siblings, her husband Nelson, son Kelly, and daughter-in-law Marsha.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Cedar Stake Center, 155 East 400 South, Cedar City, UT. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, and on Saturday at the Cedar Stake Center from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service under the direction of the Southern Utah Mortuary.
