Gwen Sylvester Hunter Obituary
1922 ~ 2014
Gwen Sylvester Hunter passed away May 2, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah of complications of old age. She was born October 18, 1922 in Hurricane, Utah the daughter of Victor Leon Sylvester and Sarah Elizabeth Roundy. She was married to Joseph Vernon Hunter December 31, 1946 in the St. George Utah Temple after a courtship that began with the offer of a sweater on a cold fall evening.
She loved her family and extended family and was very involved in caring for anyone that needed help. Mom always had a great love of art and education and found a way to blend them by earning her B.A. and then M.A. from BYU as she taught Art at Millard High and Junior High for over 30 years. Her students have always meant the world to her. After retiring she found a new career as the Fillmore City Librarian where she helped spearhead the building of a new library. Her community involvement was always very important to her. She was very involved during this same time with the GFWC and served as the State President among other positions. Something she was proud of.
She is survived by her daughter Verona, son-in-law Jefferson, grandson Isaac and brother Leon.
Funeral services will be Saturday May 10th at 11 am with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 that morning in the LDS 1st-4th Ward Church in Fillmore, Utah. Interment will follow at the Fillmore City Cemetery. Online condolences can be expressed at www.olpinstevensfuneralhome.com.
