Beloved Husband
John (Dale) Norton, 78, passed away at home unexpectedly after a short illness on May 2, 2014 with his loving wife by his side. Dale was born on June 22, 1935 in Escalante, Utah. Dale was the first of five children born to William Jean and Cleone (Toni) Davis Norton. When Dale was young, the family moved to Bingham City, Utah eventually settling on Vine Street in Murray, Utah. He attended school in Murray until he was old enough to run away to become a cowboy in Montana. He served in the army from 1956 to 1962. Dale met and married his soul mate, Sharon Holt, on January 10, 1978 and making their home in Sandy, Utah.
Dale captivated all with stories of his life adventures. He made life long friends. He was a hard worker at home, work and play. The fruit of his labor could be seen in his yards and homes in Sandy, UT, Star Valley, WY and Clatskanie, OR. When Dale put his mind to accomplishing a task, he did not stop until it was completed. Dale's passion for travel lasted his lifetime, and included trips to Rome Italy, Spain, Hawaii, various cruises, and motor homing across the USA. He loved the Utah Jazz and Fox News. Dale spent many years working for Rocky Mountain Coatings and took great pride in his job. Dale had recently become active in the LDS church and was working toward a temple marriage.
Dale is survived by the love of his life of 36 years, Sharon, and their three puppy-doodles Harley, Lexi, and Cici. He will be loved and missed by his children; Tammy Remick, Lisa Campbell, Rick Holt, Kym (Larry) Ney, Tammy (Terry) Strum, Mike (Velvet) Norton, Susan (Paul) Walker, and Richard Norton, also 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; siblings, Marlene (Jack) Smith, Elayne Chennault, both of Wenatchee, Washington, Keith Norton of Layton, UT and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother Garry Norton and son-in-laws, Kevin Campbell and Frank Remick.
Viewings will be held, Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, in Murray, and on Friday, May 9, 2014, one hour prior to the 12:00 p.m. funeral service in the Alta Heights Chapel, 8600 S. 1500 E., Sandy, Utah.
