June 24, 1923 ~ June 10, 2014
Betty Marie Mack, daughter of Marie and Fred Frey, died June 10, 2014 at her home in Salt Lake City. Betty was born June 24, 1923, on a farm in Silver Lake, KS, the oldest of four sisters: Marge Pitman Walton, Donna Neuner, and Nancy Martinek (Robert) who survive her.
Betty, known as Blondie, met James O. Mack, Jr. in Lawrence, KS, where they both worked for Hercules Powder Co. They married April 25, 1945. She moved several times to support her husband's career in the aerospace industry. They lived in Benson, AZ, Overland Park, KS, La Vale, MD, Belle Vernon, PA, Blacksburg, VA and SLC, UT. After retiring in Salt Lake City, Jim died May 15, 1991. Betty loved to travel, spent winters in Palm Desert, and celebrated her 90th birthday in France. Her children and grandchildren will cherish her beautiful handmade quilts. Betty was able to play bridge until a month ago and valued her many friends. She was recently honored as a 32-year volunteer in the ER at University Hospital. She served as a Deacon at First Pres. Church.
Betty is survived by her children, Sharon Newton (Jacques DeJonge), Jim Mack (Jean) and Susan Mack. She is also survived by grandchildren, Andrea Gow (Ed); twins Alex and Jeff Newton; David and Steven Mack; and great grandchildren, Jack and Eli Gow, and Katelyn Newton.
Services will be held Saturday, June 21 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church, "C" Street and South Temple. We thank CNS nurse Jennifer Demko, Yvonne and Mary for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to CNS Home Hospice,
, 383 West Vine St. #300, Murray, UT 84123.
