John Charles Mazanis, 86, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend peacefully passed away on July 7, 2014. John was the second child and only son born to Nickolas John and Emma (Olsen) Mazanis on January 10, 1928 in Murray, UT. He was married to Karen Lillian Boggess on May 8, 1952 in Union, UT and later sealed in the California Oakland Temple for time and all eternity.
They had two children: Nickolas John (Patria) Mazanis II and Patti Jo Mazanis. They have two grandchildren: John Charles (Ashley) Mazanis and Melissa (Carlos) Mireles and 7 great-grandchildren: Nickolas John III and Benjamin Mazanis, and Frank, Rita, Tanis, Aurelia, and Ranger Mireles.
John grew up in Sandy, Utah and graduated from Jordan High School. He served in the Army of Occupation in Japan and partially in the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Utah, and later received an MBA from Golden Gate College in San Francisco, California. John retired from IBM after 34 years of service.
Karen, his parents and sisters, Marian Birch and Ramona Pugmire preceeded him in death. John is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends that will dearly miss him.
John was a man of honor and integrity. He was loving, hardworking, and a great sense of humor, generous but forthright. He was a faithful member of the LDS church and honorably served in many callings. He loved his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Draper Eastridge Stake Center, 1187 East Draper Parkway. There will be a viewing Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, and again Saturday from 9-9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
