Doyle Barrus Plott, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Doyle was born in Murray, Utah on August 15, 1924 to William & Gladys Barrus Plott. He graduated from Murray High School and was attending Newbury Art School in Los Angeles when the U.S. became involved in WWII. He served with the 9th Army 102nd Division as an Intelligence Observer in Europe for three years. He has always had a deep love for his country.
He married Janet Ferguson, and they were blessed with four children, Doyle Barry Plott (Charlotte), Jeffrey Lynn Plott (Sally), Suzanne Leith Loritz and Lezlie Jane Huggard (Alex); they later divorced. He married Lola Jean Rose on April 8, 1967; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Doyle helped raise Lola Jean's children, Alan Lee Lowder and Lori Gygi (Mark). Their dreams were realized when they were blessed with four more beautiful children, Heather Hadley (Brett), Michele Hunt (Von), Dustin Cody Plott (Leann) and Ryan Arthur Plott (Lynette).
Doyle loved his family, the gospel and his country. He always commented on the beautiful American flag and served in the Salt Lake Temple for 20 years. His family was his pride and joy and he treasured every moment he spent with them.
Doyle was a unique man and a pioneer in many areas. He opened the first Pizzeria in the state of Utah in 1953. He also built the first home in Summit Park in 1958.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, William Martell Plott (Phyllis); his wife; 10 children; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the East Millcreek 6th Ward, 3103 E. Craig Drive (3600 South). A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
