Annis Emelia Olsen Roberts Obituary
Nov. 22, 1918 ~ July 18, 2014
Annis Emelia Olsen Roberts, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2014 following a long life of service, example, and testimony.
She was born on Nov. 22, 1918 to George Gane and Annis Verena Ockey Olsen in Cardston, Alberta, Canada and grew up nearby in Beazer where she helped on the farm and excelled in school, basketball, and music. Emelia served an LDS mission to California and attended BYU, earning a degree in Foods and Nutrition. She helped organize the Beta Pi sorority for sister missionaries and sang in the Beta Pi sextet. She worked in the Veteran's Office at BYU with Hugh B. Brown and later replaced him, coordinating GI benefits for returning soldiers. There she met and caught the eye of Connell Roberts, who became her sweetheart, husband, and loving companion in life. They married on Sept. 14, 1950 and were blessed with seven children. While living in Sacramento and San Bernardino, CA, she served often in R. Society and also as Pres. of the Faculty Wives of Sac. City College. She hosted visiting church leaders, Nancy Reagan as the governor's wife, and others, showing all the same care she did her grandchildren decades later. Following a mission to Scotland, she and Connell moved to Orem, UT where family visited often and enjoyed her homemade pies and jam. Everywhere she went, she served with boundless energy and great love. She was known for her faith-filled stories, delicious rolls, a speedy pace and strong embrace.
Emelia is survived by children: Doug (Jeanette) Roberts, Connie Schreiner, Kathy (Stan) Johnson, Judy Salazar, Paul (Mary) Roberts, Barbara (Rick) Lamprecht, and Tom (Jennifer) Roberts; 37 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11 AM at the LDS chapel at 9750 S 2200 W in South Jordan. Viewings will be Friday, July 25 from 6-8 PM at Jenkins-Soffe funeral home, 1007 W South Jordan Pkwy, and from 9:30-10:30 AM Sat. at the chapel.
