Mary Jeppesen Thompson
1939 ~ 2014
A joyous reunion occurred on July 30, 2014, when our sweet mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend left this earth and joined her eternal sweetheart John.
Mary was born in Ogden, Utah on March 12, 1939, to John and Alice Hyde Jeppesen. She grew up in the Ogden area and graduated from Ogden High School.
She married John "Jack" H. Thompson on May 31, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple, and moved to San Diego where John was serving in the US Navy. They returned to Utah settling in Ogden Utah and later moved to the Salt Lake area to raise their four daughters.
In her young life she enjoyed tap dancing and being a drum majorette. Later in life she enjoyed gardening, camping, boating, skiing, sewing, square dancing, shooting, canning and home improvement projects. She loved to play card and board games with family game nights being one of her favorite activities. Mary had a knack for organizing the smallest of places and was very meticulous earning her the nick name of Inspector 9. She always had a warm heart and open mind, while never compromising her values and beliefs. Mary worked for Deseret News for 32 years retiring in 2001. Upon retirement she and John moved to St. George Utah to enjoy the sun and warmer weather. After retiring she served an LDS mission with her husband, John, at Cove Fort, Utah. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences in her life.
She is survived by four daughters: Karen Cartie, Ann (Dana) Hovorka, Judie (Mark) McDonald, Jackie (Tim) Sadler, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one sister Linda Meldrum. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister, Joan Petersen, and son-in-law, Loyd Cartie.
Graveside services will be held Monday, August 4, 10:00 am at Valley View Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Valley View Funeral Home 4335 W 4100 So, West Valley, UT. www.valleyviewfuneral.com
