Kirk Lynn Brown Obituary
Video Memory
1951 ~ 2014
Kirk Lynn Brown, loving husband, father, "Poppy", and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on August 29, 2014.
He was born to Fon Glenn Brown and Patricia Ann Seay March 25, 1951 in Grangville, ID. He was the oldest of three children. He spent the majority of his childhood in La Grande, Oregon prior to his family relocating to Salt Lake City before his senior year of high school. He was proud to say he was in the first graduating class of Brighton High School.
Kirk honorably served an LDS mission to Arizona. During his service he met and baptized Ruth Ann Attebery, who later became his wife. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 2, 1973. Ruth was the love of his life and together they were blessed with five wonderful children. He deeply loved his family and worked hard to support them. He worked for many years in the food industry as a salesman and buyer. He was able to develop lasting friendships with many of the people whom he worked with and provided services for. Most recently his greatest joy has been supporting his 16 grandchildren in their many activities. They all meant the world to him and he loved being involved in their lives.
He lived and loved his religion, serving in many leadership callings with the most resent being as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple. He was a kind, generous, loving person who enriched the lives of those around him. Everywhere he went he was recognized and approached by many who were influenced by him.
Kirk loved sports. In high school he excelled in track, football and basketball and later played football collegiately at Snow College. His love of sports influenced him in becoming an official. He was inducted into the Utah Sports Officials Hall of Fame in 2012 and into the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Utah Chapter in 2013. He shared his love of sports with many young people as a coach. Through coaching and officiating football, basketball, baseball and softball he developed and maintained many lifelong friendships.
Kirk is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, sister, Kristy (Tim) Miller, children, Stephanie (Justin) Gardner, Holly (Jeromy) Orton, Lindseay, Kirk Jr. "Chip" (Danelle), and Kenny (Krista) Brown, Grandchildren, Abby, Zane, Lewis, Kyllie, Drew, Sophie, Ellie, James, Raleigh, Anna, Tyson, Baylee, Katelynn, Kinsley, and Halle, and by many other loving extended family members. Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, Fon and Patricia, and by his brother, Kelly.
Services will be held on Wednesday September 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hunter 17th Ward, 3745 S. 6400 W. West Valley City. Friends and family may call at a visitation on Tuesday September 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S. West Valley City, and one hour prior to services at the church.
