Mary Jane N.Agricola 1919 ~ 2004  OGDEN – Mary Jane Nelson Agricola, 85, died Thursday, December 30, 2004.  She was born October 9, 1919 to Alphonso and Hortense Evans Nelson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She spent her childhood in Nevada, graduating from Las Vegas High School in 1939. She attended Utah State University and received her degree in nursing from the Budge Hospital in Logan, Utah, where she met her sweetheart, Cal. Mary Jane married Calvin D. Agricola on December 5, 1940 in Logan and spent the next 64 years happily with him. They raised their children Patti, Tom, Shelley and Jill in Ogden, Utah.  M.J. worked as a registered nurse at the Dee Memorial Hospital and as a public health nurse for Weber County for 14 years. Teaching came later in her career. She was cited for her work in developing a health career curriculum for the State of Utah secondary schools, which received national recognition and acceptance. She loved teaching her students at Bonneville and Roy High Schools. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. M.J. and Cal spent many happy years golfing at Patio Springs Country Club, Ogden Golf and Country Club, and Bloomington Country Club in St. George, Utah. She was perhaps best known for her great sense of humor, her quick wit, and fun personality. She loved a good joke and could entertain us for hours with her delightful stories. She could always see the glass as half full. Mary Jane was a wonderful, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will remain in our hearts forever. She is survived by her husband, Cal, and her children: Patti Langrock (Dave), Thomas Nelson Agricola (Pat), Shelley Agricola (J. Fehon), Jill Sparrow (Ben); her grandchildren: Heidi Langrock Larsen, Holly Langrock Novak, Erin Agricola Howard, Josh and Cal Garr Agricola, Matt, Nic, Ty, and Zac Sparrow, and eight great-grand-children. Also surviving are her sister, Rachel Nelson Johnson and brother, Richard Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Thomas Nelson, Herman Nelson, and Elizabeth Nelson Halsell. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the special caregivers at The Meadows Assisted Living in St. George, The Emeritus Estates Assisted Living in Ogden, Legacy Hospice Care of Northern Utah, and Crestwood Care Center. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 7 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, January 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her name to the American Red Cross for Tsunami Relief: The American Red Cross – P.O. Box 97089 Washington D.C. 20090-7089. Donations may also be made online at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-HELPNOW.
