Mickey Thompson 7/10/43 ~ 3/2/2009 Mickey Thompson passed away suddenly on Monday, March 2, 2009 due to congestive heart failure and complications of diabetes. He was 65.Mickey was born on July 10, 1943 to Alvin Leroy Thompson and Stella Lucille Simpson in Salt Lake City. Attended Plymouth grade school, Valley Jr. High and Granger High School in West Valley City. Served in the United States Army during Viet Nam. He was employed by Kennecott Copper in a variety of positions, retiring after 20 years. Married the light of his life, Melody Ann Gilbride Knudsen in September, 1993. He loved to work with power tools and wood and made many special projects for his family. He was a gentle, kind individual and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought it would help you. He will be sorely missed by each of us. We love you "Papa". He is survived by his wife Melody, sons Shaun, Corey (Marie), Jayson (Rachael), and Ty Thompson, also two step-children, Brian Lee Knudsen and Amy (Rob) Whitmer. Brothers, Abbie (Joann), William, and Tommy. 10 grandchildren, three step-grand-children, two great-grandchildren, one aunt and uncle, multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Lonnie. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 East Creek Road, Sandy. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at 3051 South Crews Hill Court in West Valley City. All friends and family are invited to come share stories of Mickey. Private family committal will be held at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery on Monday, March 9, 2009. Funeral Directors, Neil O'Donnell and Sons.
