ROSEMARY HURLEY Obituary
Rosemary "Rosie" Hurley In Loving Memory Rosemary Ralph Hurley passed away peacefully in her sleep in Los Angeles, California.She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 23, 1923, the first daughter of Cyril Paul Ralph and Nona Bess Ralph. Rosemary graduated in Social Work from the University of Utah, where she was affiliated with Phi Beta Phi Sorority. At U of U she met her husband Andrew Riley Hurley, a law student who later became a prominent attorney. Together they raised five children, and were vital participants in many organizations particularly the Boy and Girl Scout associations. Initially a volunteer, Rosemary worked professionally for the Utah Girl Scout Council for 24 years. She recruited troop leaders, organized and supervised day camps, and created and directed large service events for the organization. In words and deeds, she gave generously to the Girl Scouts and tirelessly worked to gain recognition for and garner resources to benefit the program. Rosemary affectionately called "Rosie" by friends and family was passionate about people and very sociable. She loved to dance and, with her husband, was a prominent member of the Hi-Steppers Dance Club. This group met every month for many years to learn and practice ballroom dancing. Devoted to enhancing the lives of others, Rosemary was part of PEO, a non-profit organization known for its philanthropic and educational efforts on behalf of women. She loved singing and gathering with friends, and she was devoted to helping and loving those around her. Rosemary retired to Los Angeles, and lived in the loving care of her daughter Sally, and sons Patrick and Michael. Her children and friends dearly miss her presence and energy, and are grateful for the gift of her joyful spirit and her love for them. Rosemary is survived by one daughter, Sally Marie Hurley of Los Angeles; four sons, Paul Robert Hurley and James Bernard Hurley, both of San Francisco, and Patrick John Hurley and Michael Andrew Hurley, both of Los Angeles; and three grandsons, Dylan Hurley of Salt Lake City, Utah and Reilly Hurley and Trigg Hurley, both of San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rosemary's name to the Utah Girl Scout Council. Friends may reply to Sally Hurley at 1419 S. Calvary Cemetery entrance on 4th Ave T Street on September 26, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. Reception follows at 12:30, at the Alta Club, 151 East South Temple parking entrance.
