Obituary Condolences

Emil Baer Fetzer Beloved Father, Architect Emil B. Fetzer, 93, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, November 2, 2009. He was born on January 4, 1916 to John Fetzer, Sr. and Margaret Baer Fetzer. He married his high school sweetheart, June Alma Seyfarth, on June 14, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been true companions and best friends for 69 wonderful years of marriage, centering their love and devotion on the Savior, each other, and their family. Upon graduation from the University of Southern California in Architecture, Dad worked at Fetzer & Fetzer Architects with his father and brothers, John and Henry. Together, they designed many schools, civic and church buildings throughout the Intermountain West. In 1965, Dad was called by President David O. McKay to serve as LDS Church Architect, a position he held for 21 years. He designed more than 20 new LDS Temples around the world, including the Provo, Ogden and Jordan River, Mexico City, Freiberg Germany and Tokyo Japan Temples and remodeled many existing Temples. His calling also included special projects, and designing chapels, visitor centers and various church related buildings. Dad loved to serve his Savior and Heavenly Father in his daily work, which he always felt to be an honor and privilege that humbled him. He was grateful to be a tool in the hands of the Lord. After retirement, he served as a worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He truly loved temples, and often reminded his family that temples were places where "heaven and earth meet." We will miss his sweet smile, his unwavering spirit, his love for family, his willingness to share his testimony of Christ, and the twinkle in his eye. He is survived by his forever friend and companion June; his sister-in-law Lucile Fetzer; his children who love him, Juneil (Lynn) Lyon, Mark (Elaine) Fetzer, Margaret (Glen) Stoddart, James (Debbie) Fetzer, and Janet (Michael) Jenkins. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Dad was the last surviving sibling of the John Fetzer family, preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Monument Park 17th Ward, 2795 Crestview Drive, Salt Lake City. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 So. and Friday, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ward. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. "We love you Dad, Grandpa, Grandpa Great!"
