Obituary Condolences

Joyce Estelle Lomax Gardner 4/30/1932 ~ 3/13/2010 Joyce Estelle Lomax Gardner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on March 13, 2010 with her children at her side. She suffered through pneumonia and heart and kidney failure but in the end died peacefully with her loved ones at her side.Joyce was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gerald and Estelle Lomax on April 30, 1932. On June 18, 1947 she married William L. Gardner, Jr. Joyce was an amazing gourmet cook, and she taught her children to make her specialty dinners. We all looked forward to her delicious meals and fun family evenings. Mom had a green thumb. She had many of the greenest, loveliest flowering plants wherever she lived. In Summit Park, she enjoyed summer days planting inside and outside and taking care of all the beautiful hummingbirds that visited her house each day. Mom loved to collect clocks, dolls, and hummingbird knickknacks. Mom spent the last 18 months living in a beautiful sixth floor apartment with a glorious view of the trees and the city. She brought her love of Christmas to her new home with the tree and decorations that filled her place with Christmas cheer. Joyce was an avid reader who loved mystery, adventure, and legal thrillers. She and her daughter Linda picked up new books every other week so they could read and talk about what they liked. As a grandma, Joyce invited her young grandchildren to come stay over for some fun. Jeremy, Greg, and Carissa all stayed with Grandma throughout their school years. Joyce is survived by her husband Bill, children, Linda (Dave) Bernini, David (Emma) Gardner; grandchildren, Jeremy, Carissa, and Greg; brothers, Jerry Lomax, John (Vicki) Lomax, Larry (Maryette) Lomax, and many nieces and nephews. Joyce leaves behind many people who cared about her and will miss her kindness and friendly attitude. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Estelle Lomax, her son Scott Gardner, and her brother Michael Lomax. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. Please join us as we remember Joyce who was very special to us and will be greatly missed.
