Franco Aguilar Richfield, Utah Sergeant Franco Aguilar, 36, of Richfield, Utah, was killed April 29, 2010, while in the line of duty, as he was investigating a traffic accident doing one of the things he did best, helping others. He was born April 28, 1974, in Abasolo, Mexico, to Gerardo and Rosalba Aguilar. He married Jamie Farley on July 15, 1993, in Provo. Sgt. Aguilar was known for his dedication to his career, to his fellow officers, and to his community. Always pushing himself and those around him to become better at what they do. Sgt. Aguilar was a leader by example and would not ask his deputies to do anything he would not do himself. Sgt. Aguilar began his career in 2000 as a corrections officer and was assigned to the Sevier County Jail. From there he transferred to an assignment in patrol. Sgt. Aguilar was hired by Richfield City Police Department a few years later. He was then rehired by Sevier County Sheriff's Office in 2005. Sgt. Aguilar then took the opportunity to work for the Utah Highway Patrol. He had an assignment in the Nephi Utah area. After a short stint there he was rehired by the Sevier County Sheriff's Office in 2007 where he was assigned to Patrol. In 2009 he was promoted to Sergeant. He served six years with United States Marine Corp. He was a Drug Recognition Expert, Taser instructor, member of the Sevier County SWAT team, and member of the Sevier County Gang Task Force. He is survived by his wife, Jamie, and their five children, Antonio, Alyssa, Nicolas, Angelia and Isabella; parents, Gerardo and Rosalba Aguilar of American Fork; and brothers, Ricardo, Fredrick and Octavio Aguilar. Sgt. Aguilar was preceded in death by his sister, Yadira Aguilar and a cousin, Maritza Aguilar. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 12 Noon in the Sevier Valley Center,(800 W. 200 S.) in Richfield. Friends may call at the Sevier Valley Center, on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at the Sevier Valley Center on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the American Fork Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. with Military Rites by the Utah Honor Guard and the Utah Highway Patrol.
