ALLEN STOCKING Obituary
Allen Stocking Father - Friend Allen Stocking was born February 4, 1911 to Hyrum and Eliza Orabell Beckstead Stocking in South Jordan, Utah. He passed away in his 100th year on August 2nd from causes incident to age. He graduated from Jordan High School. He attended Utah State University where he was on the wrestling team. His family moved to Riverton where he met Mary Hamilton. They were married March 27, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away on May 8, 1991. He was taught to work hard at a young age, going out to herd sheep throughout the intermountain area. He was very fond of the Uinta mountain range where they had their summer sheep range. He worked at Jordan High School where he taught auto mechanics. He was a bus driver for the Jordan School District and took over the route of the 1938 bus crash that killed 26 students and the bus driver. He was a volunteer fireman and the assistant fire chief. He worked at Riverton Motor Company for many years as the service manager and received awards for service there. Dad enjoyed his garden and grew the best tomatoes in Riverton. Dad loved music; singing in a men's quartet and the ward choir. He loved to be with his family. Allen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he loved to serve. He was Elders Quorum President, high councilor, Bishop, Sunday school teacher, scout master, varsity coach, explorer adviser, chorister, temple worker in the Salt Lake and Jordan River temples, and many other callings. Each one he served willingly. He was the recipient of the Silver Beaver award. He is survived by his children: Jean Newman (Laury), Sue Davis (Robert), Craig (JoLayne), Jan Svedin (Wilson), and Joan Lybbert (Don) and daughter-in-law Carol Stocking. He has 26 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren. Three more great grandchildren are expected as well as two great great grandchildren. He has a sister, Reva Willis. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary; son, Dick, grand-daughter, Adriane Lybbert, siblings; Calvin and Russell Stocking and Laura Kusch. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverton Stake Center, 13400 So. 1855 W. where friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services.
