ARLENE MANNING Obituary
Arlene Manning 1919 ~ 2010 Arlene Manning, 90, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2010. She was married for 69 years to her devoted husband, William (Bill) Manning, who passed away on June 2, 2010. She was born Arlene Josephine Miller on December 6, 1919 to Frank E. and Hilda Miller, in Orwigsburg, PA, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class. Arlene had a long, successful business career, beginning in Washington, D.C, and continuing in Salt Lake City. She held an executive Human Resources position with the Department of Interior, where she was instrumental in the developing stages of Glen Canyon Dam. She also championed equal rights for all, as evidenced by her time spent as a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of the federal government. Arlene was a brilliant person, with a creative and imaginative personality. She was possessed of a generous spirit, and always had a kind word for all. With her loving husband, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and several foreign countries. Arlene will be greatly missed. She is survived by her three children: William R. Manning of Easley, SC, Richard Manning of Salt Lake City, and Kathleen Manning of San Pablo, CA; three grandchildren: Anna Cabezas (daughter of Kathleen), Franklin Manning (son of William R.), and Stephen Manning (son of William R.); and two great-grandchildren: Kieran Cabezas (son of Anna), and William R.
