Joseph Gutierrez 1977 ~ 2011 Joseph Lynn Gutierrez, 34, passed away unexpectedly in an accident on Mar 3, 2011. He was born on Feb 17, 1977 in Espanola, NM, to Joe L. and Rosalie Gutierrez. He was a member of the Pueblo tribe. Joseph was born deaf and raised in Tooele. He attended Oakridge and Upland Terrace Elementary Schools, Tooele Jr. High and graduated from Tooele High School in 1995. Joe received an Associate's Degree in graphic and commercial art from UVU in 1997. Joe had a passion for snowboarding and could be found on the Utah Mountains or out-of-state competing for the US Deaf Snowboard team. He was also an avid pool player. At the time of his death, he was employed by Sicilia Pizza and California Pizza. Joe was fiercely independent and did not let his deafness keep him from living a full life. He was kind, laid back and always had a big smile and hug to give. He was a good friend, enjoyed good times, and leaves behind many friends. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by sisters, Geri McCuistan, Farmington, NM; Myra Lockie, Stansbury Park, Jan Abugharbieh, Albuquerque; Uncles Tony and Amardo Gutierrez; and Aunts Candy Naranjo, Nina Motah, and Alfonsa Owens; all of Santa Clara Pueblo, NM. He was preceded death by his nephew and loving parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Wed, Mar 16, at 1 p.m., at the Tooele LDS North Stake Center, 583 N. 270 E., Tooele. Donations to a memorial fund may be made in his name at any Zion's Bank or Heritage West Credit Union. Interment will be at the Tooele Cemetery at a later date.
