Shawn Allen Wickersham
08/12/1965 ~ 09/21/2001
The dim image of a new moon loomed in the midnight sky as the northern hemisphere rolled into the first few hours of summer's final day, 2001. The waters of the White River slithered quietly in the darkness along the same path as a remote stretch of State Highway 64 between the small towns of Meeker and Rangely, Colorado. Near a gentle bend in the roadway at mile marker 44, and only for a moment, silence gave way to the violent sounds of metal and glass colliding with the dirt, sagebrush and rock of the isolated Colorado landscape.
As the season ended that year, so did a young adult life. Shawn's life was longer than many, yet shorter than most. Shawn cared about his family and friends. He was a hard worker and a nice person. He was a nice looking dude, a great athlete and confident. I really admired how he was so humble about those things. I'm thankful he experienced happiness and love in his life. He was a good guy. I always think of him. I miss him and I love him.
