ROY, UT-Dorothy Alice Belisle Moon returned to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
She was born July 20, 1920 to John Milton and Alice Lizzie Belisle in Many, Louisiana.
She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of eleven. After completing high school, she attended college at Natchitoches, Louisiana. Her senior year she transferred to Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in education June 10, 1942. While attending BYU, she met Vernon, from Hanna, Utah. They were married June 11, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married 68 years before he passed away in 2010.
Dorothy taught the first and second grades in Roosevelt, Utah for 26 years. She served as a leader with the YWMIA program for 29 years in the Roosevelt Stake. She loved Relief Society and doing service and kind deeds for others. She was never idle and had a passion for reading, crocheting, sewing, quilting and cooking. Dorothy loved to sing and was a great story teller. She also enjoyed attending the Temple as often as she was able. She loved Institute and her last class was a few days before she died.
Vernon and Dorothy served three missions together: Ute Indian Mission, Randelett, Utah; Billings, Montana; and St. Louis, Missouri. They served in the Provo Temple and as volunteers at the Mission Training Center.
She is survived by her five daughters: Dottie Stout (Jerry) Smith, Roy, Utah; Rebecca (late Steven) Smith, Tremonton, Utah; Mayna (John) Edrington, Roy, Utah; Amelia (Robert) Fawson, Vacaville, California; Catherine (Steve) Hickman, Tulsa, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving two sisters, Millie Warner, Duchesne, Utah and Hannah Hoop of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Roy 26th Ward LDS Chapel, 3649 West 4800 South, Roy. A viewing will be held Friday, October 7th at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund.
