Fern Childs Hambleton Obituary
1923 - 2012
Fern Childs Hambleton, 88, passed from this life April 1, 2012 with her husband by her side in Frisco, Texas. She was born on June 30, 1923 in Gunnison, Utah to Harold and Kate Childs. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City and attended business college soon afterward. During WWII Fern worked as a secretary for Continental Oil. She married Melvin Hambleton, a school teacher and media center director, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. They lived in Southern California the majority of their marriage where they raised their two daughters, Sherri and Jodi. The last six years were spent with their daughters and grandchildren in Texas.
Fern was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints her whole life, enjoying many callings and duties associated with it. In Rialto she was a member of The Women's Club. She also authored a book about house hold tips and being frugal. She was a member of a family Pinochle club and enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Hambleton is survived by her husband, Melvin Hambleton, her daughters Sherri (Dana Darwazeh) of Florida and Jodi Hicken of McKinney, TX and her grandchildren Nathan, Jordan, Hillary, Addison and Grayson. She was preceded in death by her sisters Beaulah (Robert Burchett) and Beth (Lawrence Burningham).
There will be a viewing at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple, S.L.C, Utah April 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with a gravesite service to follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
