Eugene K. Overby Obituary
BOUNTIFUL, UT-A kind and caring man with a down home style wisdom, Eugene "Gene" Overby left us on June 28, 2012 after a short battle with prostate cancer. His warm personality and mischievous smile will be missed by many.
Gene was born on April 23, 1945 in Salt Lake City, son of William Overby and Nettie Grace Mecham. He grew up in the avenues, a frequent visitor to his parents' store "Bill and Grace's". Gene Married Connie Barber in 1962 and together they had four children. They were later divorced. He married Susan Davis and together they shared 30 years of adventure, fun, and wonderful companionship.
Always anticipating his next trip, Gene enjoyed travel, especially cruises, scuba diving and anything involving the sea. He loved a good martini, or two and friends with whom to share.
Gene knew how to bring laughter, and did so frequently with his special language "Geneglish." He taught us to care about others' feelings, and not take ourselves too seriously. He loved animals, and had wonderful stories to tell about his pets over the years. Gene enjoyed cooking for others, wearing sharp clothes, and the lovely home and garden he and Sue designed and reconstructed in Bountiful. Anything to do with cars was high on his list.
Gene's neighbors will remember him as owning every tool imaginable, and very willing to share and lend them out.
Gene is remembered by fellow brethren of the Heat Frost and Asbestos Workers Local 69 where he spent more than 30 years until his retirement in 2000. He took great pride in doing a good job and mentoring others to so the same. Quite a few boys who grew up in Rose Park will remember Gene for the endless hours he spent coaching Little League basketball and football, in addition to LDS youth basketball.
Gene will be missed by his wife Sue, his children Terry (Angie), Scott (Julie), Tracy (Michelle), Cindy (Marty Dowd), 11 grandchildren, and a first great- grandchild. Gene's four legged buddies Ben, Jerry, Margie and Harley are missing their best friend. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Pat) of Salt Lake City.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Gene's life on Sunday July 15, 2012 at his home, 1122 South Millbrook Way, Bountiful, Utah from 12:00- 2:00 p.m. Cremation under the direction of Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary.
