Wendy Keller Obituary
2/16/1959 ~ 12/17/2012
Wendy (Claar) Keller passed away peacefully at home in Reno, Nevada on December 17, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer. Wendy was born February 16, 1959 to Florence and John Claar in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Wendy worked for the Washoe County Sheriff's Office for 22 years, retiring in 2010. During that time, Wendy built the Sheriff's Community Work Program into one of the most recognized alternative sentencing programs in the country. Wendy loved the holidays and would do everything in her power to enrich the lives of those less fortunate in our community. She was the driving force behind the annual Christmas on the Corridor event on 4th Street in Reno and every Christmas you would find her collecting, buying, wrapping and delivering toys and clothes to those kids who would otherwise go without.
Like her father, Wendy loved baseball. She was always planning trips to Arizona for spring training or to Los Angeles to watch her favorite team, the Angels. While home in Reno, you could often find her and her beloved husband Steve at Reno Aces games cheering on the home team. Wendy loved to make fudge. Always abundant during the Holiday's, Wendy's fudge was famous and a special treat for all of those who were fortunate enough to enjoy it.
For all the kids in Wendy's life she was known as Grandma Wendy. Whether at a sporting event for one of her grandkids or one of the many sleepovers she hosted, Wendy always made sure the kids had a fun and memorable time. Wendy will be deeply missed by her family and all of those people who had the good fortune to know her.
Wendy was preceded in death by her father John R. Claar. She is survived by her loving husband Steven Patrick Keller (SP), sons Joshua James Palmer, Jacob James Palmer, step son Derek Allen Keller and their wives Michelle, Kristen and Wendy; 6 Grandchildren, Taylor Audrianna, Kylie Elizabeth, Emily Anne, Deven Ashley, Conner Jacob and Caleb James; mother Florence Claar; 5 sisters, Janis (Barry) Banks, Kayleen 'Kay' (Ed) Elder, Connie (Rod) Spencer, Kari Irene (Dan) Ellis, and Sherry Lynn (Ray) Milne.
A celebration of life is being planned per Wendy's wishes and will be announced for family and friends.
