Wilbur Joseph Guay Obituary
1920 ~ 2012
Wilbur "Bill" Guay, age 92, resident of Park City, Utah, passed peacefully from natural causes on Christmas Day 2012.
Bill was born February 25, 1920, in Butte, Montana. His parents were Edwin and Nora Guay. Bill lived an extraordinary life growing up in the Great Depression and serving as a Lieutenant in the Navy in World War II. He crossed the Pacific many times to destinations of Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Okinawa and the Philippines. He pursued his education at the Montana School of Mines and the Colorado School of Mines where he earned a PHD in Metallurgy. He worked for Newmont Mining Corporation where he became an expert in gold processing and developed his own patents.
After the war, Bill married Raeburn Kettner and raised two children, Susan and John. Growing up in Montana, Bill loved the outdoors and he introduced his family to both snow skiing and water skiing. The family lived in many states, including Utah, Montana, Washington, Colorado and Connecticut.
Bill is survived by his son John, John's wife Diana and their sons, Justin and Jeff. He moved to Park City after he retired from Newmont so he could be close to his grandchildren. Bill cared deeply for his family, supporting them in good times and bad. His family will remember the countless thankless tasks and unwavering loyalty as a legacy to be passed on. We miss you, Dad.
